Duran Duran and Wyclef Jean will perform at “DOCK ROCKS – Party on the Piers,” the first annual concert and boat party fundraiser in support of the South Street Seaport Museum on Tuesday, August 4, 2015.
Captain Jonathan Boulware, Executive Director of the South Street Seaport Museum. made the announcement on July 15. “Dock Rocks will be instrumental in our efforts to revitalize the Seaport Museum post-Sandy,” Boulware said. “The concert will showcase the Seaport Museum’s historic ships to nearly 6,000 visitors in a completely unique way.” He added, “This inaugural celebratory fundraiser for the Museum will support the reinvigoration of the programming that only the Seaport Museum can offer: on-water education programs, interpretation of the original port of New York, our collections, historic buildings, and fleet of ships…We’re thrilled about Dock Rocks and what it means for the future of the Seaport Museum.”
“DOCK ROCKS” will kick off at 5 p.m.. on August 4 on Pier 16, South Street Seaport. It will open with the “Swatch Presents Emerging Artists Showcase.” In addition to Duran Duran and Jean, there will also be surprise guest performances during the five hour show,
VIP attendees will enjoy the concert from one of nine historic ships and party boats positioned around the stage and at Pier 15. Participating ships include the Museum’s historic Peking, Ambrose and Pioneer; along with NY Water Taxi and Zephyr luxury yacht, and Hornblower Cruises’ Infinity, Hybrid, Sensation, and Esprit.
Since releasing their debut self-titled album in 1981, Duran Duran from Birmingham, England (lead singer Simon Le Bon, keyboard player Nick Rhodes, bassist John Taylor, and drummer Roger Taylor) has won two Grammy Awards and a MTV Video Music Award. The band has sold over 120 million records and was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1993.
On September 11, Duran Duran will release their 14th studio album, Paper Gods. Producers include three-time Grammy Award winner Nile Rodgers, who produced their 1986 platinum Notorious album, Mark Ronson, whose “Uptown Funk” recently hit number one featuring Bruno Mars, co-produced the first single, “Pressure Off,” featuring Janelle Monáe.
Three-time Grammy Award winner Wyclef Jean will release his eighth solo album, Clefication, later this year. He began his recording career in 1994 with Lauryn Hill and The Fugees. Jean has composed and produced songs for several stars, including Whitney Houston, Shakira, Bono of U2, Santana, Pitbull, and Mary J. Blige.
