It looks like Dunkin’ Donuts has a leg up on their rival when it comes to holiday cups this year. Dunkin’ Donuts hasn’t shied away from the Christmas theme, which is what Starbucks did and it has put them in quite the conundrum with folks accusing them of waging a war on Christmas.
According to Fox News on November 11, Dunkin’ didn’t settle on a plain generic cup, like the simple red holiday cup introduced by Starbucks recently. Dunkin’ has spread the word “Joy” across their cups donned with Christmas wreaths.
Now the conspiracy theories are bubbling up online accusing Dunkin’ Donuts of deliberately making their holiday cups Christmas-like as a jab at their rival who is circling the online drain for its bah-humbug-like cup. Did Dunkin’ Donuts take advantage of Starbucks being accused of waging a war on Christmas?
This question could probably be answered by anyone who has ever worked for a huge franchise and had their hand in ordering products for that franchise. That answer would be there’s no-way that these cups were created after the wind whipped up the news about Starbucks plain red holiday cups.
More than likely Dunkin’ Donuts had these cups designed and ordered while the kids were still enjoying their summer vacation from school. There is no way they could have ordered the millions of cups this franchise is going to need through the holiday season a few days ago so they can take advantage of Starbucks predicament!
CNN News writes, “Oh joy! Another holiday cup” and they have a sarcastic point made here. Just how much time should folks devote to the messages on coffee cups? A spokesperson from Dunkin’ told CNN Money, “For many years Dunkin’ Donuts has served coffee in festive cups featuring the word ‘joy’ as part of our annual celebration of the season and holiday offerings.”
Does anyone really remember what take-out coffee cups were sporting for Christmas decor a year ago? If you do you have one heck of a great memory or a lot of time on your hands. Another possibility is that you drink way too much coffee if you can remember last year’s holiday designs on disposable cups!
Starbucks plain red cup, however festive looking, is void of anything Christmas. A self-proclaimed Internet personality Joshua Feuerstein, started the ball rolling on the plain red cups acting as Starbucks waging a war on Christmas with a rant on YouTube. This is a guy who likes to push the buttons on hot button issues. (Some might even say he installs those buttons.)
Never the less, Feuerstein has gathered millions of views on that YouTube video, which is seen here on his Facebook post. He lambastes Starbucks for leaving Christmas off their holiday cups. Now Dunkin’ Donuts suddenly appears with cups that are unmistakably Christmas themed, but this was more than likely a coincidence.
It looks like one coffee giant is raked over the coals for not using Christmas decor on their coffee cups and another is getting raked over the coals because they do have a Christmas theme going on with their cups, go figure! Maybe because of all the hoopla this year many more folks will remember those designs for years to come, there’s been an awful lot of time dedicated in the news to the throw-away cups and their Christmas designs or lack of!
