The Duggar family has released a painful statement after Josh Duggar, one of their “19 Kids and Counting” children, admits to cheating on his wife via the Ashley Madison’s website. Judging from Bob and Michelle Duggar’s statement, the “19 Kids and Counting” family is heartbroken.
The Duggar family statement released on August 20 begins with words written by Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar:
“Please see the statement below from our son Josh regarding recent media stories about him. When we learned of this late last night our hearts were broken. As we continue to place our trust in God we ask for your prayers for Josh, Anna, our grandchildren and our entire family.”
After his parents’ heartbreaking words, Josh Duggar writes the following:
“I have been the biggest hypocrite ever. While espousing faith and family values, I have been unfaithful to my wife. I am so ashamed of the double life that I have been living and am grieved for the hurt, pain and disgrace my sin has caused my wife and family, and most of all Jesus and all those who profess faith in Him. I have brought hurt and a reproach to my family, close friends and the fans of our show with my actions. The last few years, while publicly stating I was fighting against immorality in our country I was hiding my own personal failures. As I am learning the hard way, we have the freedom to choose our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences. I deeply regret all the hurt I have caused so many by being such a bad example. I humbly ask for your forgiveness. Please pray for my precious wife Anna and our family during this time.”
Surprisingly, there are no comments posted by readers under the Duggar family statement. However, on the Duggar family’s official Facebook page, fans of the “19 Kids and Counting” family are expressing their reactions which range from forgiving Josh for having cheated on Anna to telling Anna to leave Josh.
“Josh needs to get some serious mental, and most importantly spiritual help. As atrocious as his sins have been, they are not beyond the power of the cross and forgiveness, if he earnestly seeks it. My prayers are with your entire family at this time.”
“OMG you people supporting josh are delusional. He is a sexual deviant and the only person who needs support is Anna. She needs the support and strength to get out of that family and religion and live a life away from the abuse that is rampant in the cult she belongs to and was raised in.”
The Duggar family and the once popular “19 Kids and Counting” stars are facing tough criticism by almost everyone, and Josh Duggar is running out of forgiveness, even from fans:
“I have been a fan since your first special aired. All this is just more proof your a real family with real issues and I defended your family and Josh when every thing started. I am so disappointed I cannot defend Josh any longer. He should have had come completely clean the first time with ALL of his transgressions. My heart breaks for his wife and children and the rest of the family for what heart ache he has caused. He obviously needs help to deal with his addictions and I sincerely hope he gets the help he needs for the sake of his family and his innocent children. Please don’t make excuses for him any longer. I find that offensive and his wife deserves more respect than that.”
The Duggar family, especially Josh’s parents Jim Bob and Michelle are going through the kind of hell for which there seems little rescue but forgiveness and prayers. However, the Ashley Madison leak affected more than 36 million email accounts including government officials, so why was Josh Duggar so highly publicized? Some European Christians believe that when God closes one door, he opens another door. Just maybe, this is God’s second try to give the Duggar family a message: Be what you are meant to be, not a public judgmental institution — but a private family.
