The Duggar family believes in covenant marriages as well as traditional marriages. It seems that a covenant marriage has a lot more to offer a couple and will allow them to think twice before acting when situations go awry between the couple. There are added values to this type of union because there are more promises, vows or oaths taken between the loving couple that isn’t present during a traditional wedding ceremony.
It is so easy to call it quits when things go really bad. That isn’t the case when one enters into a covenant marriage because the extra promises they proclaim are legally binding and must be entertained before any final decisions can be made if the union wasn’t meant to be. The most important issues are doing everything you can to protect and salvage the union you have. The couples have traveled down a long road before walking down the aisle and it is sad to just brush it away without having a back-up plan to help save the love, friendship and reasons you decided to marry in the first place.
What a covenant marriage is all about:
A covenant marriage is a distinct type of the marriage agreement. This type of marriage exists in three states; Arizona, Arkansas and Louisiana. When a couple enters into a covenant marriage, there are additional proponents that differ from traditional marriages. For starters, there are statutes that prohibit the couple from obtaining a no-fault divorce and these rules limit the grounds the couple can seek if at any time they feel divorce is something to look at in the future, making it more difficult to obtain which in the long run can actually help to save the marriage.
A covenant marriage agreement is legally binding and has to be agreed to by the marrying couple. The must also agree to obtain pre-marital counseling and to seek marriage counseling before a divorce could be granted. The time of separation for the couple is longer and set in place so there is plenty of time to try and save their institution of marriage. This type of marriage also helps promote and strengthen a marriage union, lowers the number of children born out of wedlock, reduces the divorce rate and discourages cohabitation.
Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard entered into a covenant marriage – they agreed to an ironclad union – do you know any other Duggar family members or couples that have also entered into this form of marriage agreement? Do you feel this type of promise is better than the traditional marriage agreements? Explain your thoughts below so a discussion can develop with pros and cons for all to understand better and so newly engaged couples can opt for the best choice for their own marriage ceremony agreements.
