The Duggar family can’t keep ahead scandal and sex allegations. Now Gil Bates, TV dad of 19 on “Bringing Up Bates” and buddy of Jim Bob Duggar, is under suspicion for sexual molestation. Radar Online reported on Oct. 27, that five women brought sex abuse charges on the Duggar-approved, Bates-run Christian ministry Institute in Basic Life Principles. The women sued Gil Bates and other IBLP ministry leaders for ignoring sexual abuse under their very noses. The lawsuit alleges sexual harassment, inappropriate touching and pedophiliac fondling of minors by employees and agents of IBLP.
In addition to charges against the Institute in Basic Life Principles as an organization, six defendants, including the Bringing Up Bates dad Gil Bates, were individually sued on sex abuse allegations. Illinois court documents list six IBLP directors: John Stancil, Anthony Burrus, Timothy Levendusky, Charles Stephen Paine Jr., David York and Gil Bates. Each man was in charge of Institute in Basic Life Principles ministries across the country. The Bringing Up Bates TV dad is the best-known.
The five plaintiffs allege sexual misconduct suffered as volunteers, interns or employees at Institute in Basic Life Principles seminars in various locations. Some were sexually abused when they were still minors or with children in the program. Plaintiffs contacted IBLP but none were interviewed on sex abuse charges. Gil Bates and other IBLP directors are charged with covering up sexual misconduct. Bates, 50 has 19 children and is patriarch of the UP TV reality show Bringing Up Bates. Bates is close friends with former TV dad Jim Bob Duggar of “19 Kids and Counting.” The families are pretty tight: one of Bates’ sons, Lawson, is courting Jinger Duggar.
Duggar covered up sex abuse by his own son Josh Duggar. Duggar admitted to fondling four of his sisters and one other girl at the Duggar family church. Duggar was also found to be cybercheating on his wife Anna using the Ashley Madison website. He was accused by porn star Danica Dillon of having “violent sex” several times with her. Duggar is sex rehab, but Jim Bob’s and Michelle’s oldest boy isn’t the only one in need of therapy.
TV’s Dr. Drew says two of Josh’s sisters Jessa Duggar Seewald and Jill Duggar Dillard are both in dangerous and “massive denial” over sex abuse perpetrated by their brother. Shortly after Duggar confessed, Jill and Derick Dillard fundraised to go a mission trip to Central America. The Dillards offered to refund supporters’ money after complaints that it was more vacation than mission trip. The Dillards left the mission field for extended visits home, once to attend one of the Bringing Up Bates girl’s wedding. The Duggar family has long endorsed the Institute in Basic Life Principles.
