“Duck Dynasty” is coming back for a 9th season, and you may not have realized it was still on television. A & E Network posted that the Robertsons are returning in January 2016, although no exact timeslot has been announced. The network has not posted any preview videos, either, so we can only speculate what the new season will entail. Much of last season involved John Luke and his engagement and marriage, but the young couple was slated to begin college in the fall, so unless the cameras follow them to school, the storyline will probably change considerably.
The Duck Dynasty Facebook Page doesn’t give away too much about the upcoming new season, either. There is news from time to time about the various Robertson family members who are still quite popular and well-loved despite the fact that the initial tsunami that was “Duck Dynasty” has very much dissipated. Of course, the show could lose half of its viewers and still have a bigger audience than most television shows on networks or cable.
Anticipation of the return of “Duck Dynasty” may have been what prompted Discovery Channel to move the mega-popular “Alaskan Bush People” to the Wednesday night timeslot. The show appeals to much the same target audience, with a few minor adjustments. The Browns are a bit rougher around the edges than the
Robertsons, but they promote some of the same values of family, independence, a sense of moral value, although the Browns have recently been involved in some legal issues.
Are fans eager for more of the Robertsons? If lined up against “Alaskan Bush People,” will there be enough viewers left to sustain the show. Most of the time, “Duck Dynasty” is judged against its own previous ratings instead of ratings of current offerings, which may not be totally fair. While the Robertsons and their funny little sayings are still amusing to many of us, are viewers really wanting a 9th season of it?
The answer is yet to be determined, however, let’s hope the network learned its lesson a few years ago when they tried to infuse the show with a new “spin,” and it was HORRIBLE. They over scripted and went too far to the silly side. The Robertsons are funniest when the producers just let the Robertsons be the Robertsons. Most fans would rather hear the guys’ funny banter in the workroom at Duck Commander or the family back-and-forth in the living room of the Robertson’s modest home. Those fans that will be tuned in for a 9th season of “Duck Dynasty” want to see the Robertsons as they know them; that’s why they will come back.
