Was plowing through a flock of 30 geese with a vehicle on the northbound Gratiot Avenue at Wellington Crescent intentional on Thursday? Authorities from Clinton Township, Michigan want to find out, reports ClickonDetroit.com
The geese have been a common sight in the area for many years. Families would regularly feed the birds who would often cross the road on their way to and from the nearby river. An eyewitness told police other motorists had slowed down on Thursday as was common and stopped for the flock as they leisurely crossed the road; that is except for one vehicle who “accelerated and just ran right over them.”
Macomb County Animal Control and the Clinton Township police have a “person of interest” on their police blotter at this time. If the act was found to be intentional, the person could face animal cruelty charges. A witness to the disturbing scene stated it was horrible. Animal Control found five dead geese and one had to be euthanized because of its serious injuries. Two other wounded geese have not been caught.
Ten of the geese were relocated to a private farm on Friday, and early next week the remainder of the flock will be moved to the same farm where they will all be safe.
