Rap superstar Drake has posed for a “Degrassi” reunion photo with three former co-stars, and it’s making fans nostalgic just days after the pseudo series finale aired. On Thursday, MTV posted the “Degrassi” reunion shot that featured Drake with former “Degrassi” co-stars Daniel Clark (Sean), Adamo Ruggiero (Marco) and Lauren Collins (Paige) at the premiere of the new web comedy series, “We Are Disorderly: in Toronto.
Before he became a world famous rapper, Drake went by the name Aubrey Graham and made his acting debut on “Degrassi: The Next Generation” in 2001. Drake played teen basketball star Jimmy Brooks, a character who was left in a wheelchair after a school shooting. Drake ended his 145-epsiode run on the show in 2009 when his character proposed to his longtime love, Trina.
The Drake “Degrassi” reunion photo comes less than a week after the long-running teen soap’s series finale aired. At least for now, anyway. While the groundbreaking series aired its finale on TeenNick on July 31, TV Line revealed that the franchise will return on Netflix in 2016, this time under the title of “Degrassi: Next Class.”
The original Toronto-set teen drama was titled “Degrassi Junior High,” and it ran from 1987 to 1991, but the show was rebooted for a new generation in 2001 when it returned as “Degrassi: The Next Generation.” In addition to Drake, the show helped launch the career of “The Vampire Diaries” star Nina Dobrev and “90210” alum Shenae Grimes. The title of the series was eventually shortened to “Degrassi.”
Drake has not commented on the mini “Degrassi” reunion, but Collins captioned an Instagram photo of the four former stars with: “Some old friends got together last night at the #wearedisorderly premiere.” Ahead of the web series premiere party, Drake was back in his home town for the OVO Fest at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto.
