Downtown Disney has released more information about upcoming venues as Walt Disney World Resort’s continues its transformation into the re-imagined and expanded Disney Springs. In May, Walt Disney World (WDW) quietly announced 13 new tenants, including eight retail shops, for the dining, entertainment and shopping district.
New retail tenants for Disney Springs include several familiar names, including Zara, Tommy Bahama, Lilly Pulitzer, UNIQLO and PANDORA.
WDW has already opened or announced several new dining and shopping locations to The Landing, the Disney Springs area that was once Downtown Disney’s Pleasure Island.
The BOATHOUSE, a seafood and steakhouse with an optional, add-on Amphicar experience, opened in April. The venue was just added as a participant in the Disney Dining Plan.
Earlier in May, WDW also announced Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, an aviation-themed lounge that will serve specialty cocktails and small plates, will open in fall 2015. Its theming includes a storyline inspired by the pilot character of “Indiana Jones” fame. Other dining experiences announced for Disney Springs include are Morimoto Asia (pan-Asian dining) and STK Orlando (upscale steakhouse); both will also open in 2015.
Super Hero Headquarters, a Marvel-themed retail store, recently opened at Downtown Disney West Side. It is located in the footprint formerly used by United World Soccer. That niche store, currently operating in a temporary pop-up location, will move to the space Hoypoloi art gallery occupied until closing May 25. Hoypoloi’s sister gallery, Pop Gallery, remains open and is located between Splitsville and AMC in the West Side.
Other new dining and retail tenants to join Downtown Disney for its re-imagining as Disney Springs include APEX by Sunglass Hut, Art of Shaving, Chapel Hats, Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC, Erwin Pearl, Havaianas, Sanuk and Sound Lion.
“Over the past few months we have opened several new dining and retail locations, which have quickly become the top producers in their chains,” said George A. Kalogridis, president of Walt Disney World Resort, in a press statement “This type of momentum builds on the historical strength of the Downtown Disney area and its popularity with our guests from around the world as it evolves into Disney Springs,” he said.
The transformation of Downtown Disney will double the area’s number of shopping and dining opportunities. Disney Springs will expand to more than 1 million square feet – a number that includes 350,000 square feet of leasable space – in its four districts: The Landing, Marketplace, West Side and Town Center.
