Light shows have long been a part of rock and roll. The Doors performed many times with pulsating psychedelic images projected onto a screen behind them. Laser shows were a mainstay of rock shows in the 70’s and 80’s. However, the 21st century demands a higher-tech more multimedia experience and Tony Fernandez, lead singer of The Doors tribute band Peace Frog, is endeavoring to do just that. Fernandez has set out to create a unique theatrical experience of laser light shows, animation and of course live music called The Ultimate Doors Experience. To bring this ambitious project to fruition, and Doors fans, Fernandez has started an indiegogo campaign to help fund the project.
The Ultimate Doors Experience will be a ‘rockumentary’ of the life of Jim Morrison from the creation of The Doors on Venice Beach through his death in Paris in 1971. To accomplish this, Fernandez and Peace Frog will need to take their live shows from bars and nightclubs to a theater that can hold and utilize the equipment, as well as to get the stage crew and lighting designer to create the effects.
Fernandez has found a lighting designer in Matt Druzbik who has over thirty years experience in lighting rock shows. Druzbik has designed the lighting for Rush for seventeen years, and has also designed lighting shows for groups like Queensryche, and Return to Forever, a jazz super group featuring Chick Corea and Jean-Luc Ponty.
If you’ve never heard of Peace Frog, they’re a Doors tribute band out of Venice, CA, and Fernandez has been the lead singer for over twenty years. He’s played with both Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek. Peace Frog has played the Whisky a go-go, the House of Blues (L.A.), Caesars Palace, has appeared in a VH-1 production as well as international appearances.
Fernandez is trying to raise $30,000 to bring The Ultimate Doors Experience show to a residence in a Los Angeles theater, but of course needs Doors fans help to make it all possible. So what’s in for you? Besides seeing a cool show when it opens, there are a lot of premiums available at all contribution levels. A few that caught my eye were a skull and crossbone hat like Jim Morrison was wearing March 1, 1969 in Miami, or a Concho belt; if you’re a musician, the opportunity to sit in with Peace Frog, or have Peace Frog play at your party! All you need to do is go to the indiegogo site for The Ultimate Doors Experience Featuring Peace Frog and see which premium level is for you. Make a contribution and we’ll see you at a performance of The Ultimate Doors Experience!
