GOP presidential candidate and multi-billionaire entrepreneur Donald Trump asserted that Fox News journalist Megyn Kelly should apologize to him, according to CNN on Monday. Trump says that the apology should not be made to her by him. Surprisingly, Trump claims he did get an apology of sorts on Monday but it wasn’t from Kelly. Instead, Trump got a call from the head of Fox News – which equates to Megyn Kelly’s boss. Trump tweeted on Monday morning that Roger Ailes had just called him. He said that Ailes is a great guy.
Of interest in the tweet on Twitter, Trump claims that Ailes told him that he would be “treated fairly on Fox News.” The tweet concluded with Trump writing, “His word is always good!” This alleged apology is quite believable when one considers what happened last Thursday night. Donald Trump appeared in the 2016 Presidential Debate presented by Fox News and Facebook, and Fox got the biggest cable network ratings in history – aside from some sporting events. Ailes needs to stay on good terms with Trump because Trump is incredibly great for ratings. And ratings, as any executive in the media industry can tell you, is what it’s all about. It’s what advertising dollars as well as becoming and staying a successful television network is all about.
As previously reported, Megyn Kelly asked Trump about derogatory comments he has made in the past towards women. Trump joked that he has only called his longtime foe Rosie O’Donnell a “fat pig” and other names. Kelly persisted on the alleged Trump ‘war on women.’ In the aftermath of the debate, Trump was interviewed on CNN and said basically said that Kelly was angry in her unfair questioning of him and said that she had ‘blood coming out of wherever.’ Many believe he suggested she was menstruating – on her period – the night of the debate. He says he meant no such thing.
While Trump believes she needs to apologize for being unprofessional and personally attacking him during the debate, there are others who believes that he owes her the apology. At this point, it’s quite obvious that neither is going to happen. Yet, Roger Ailes entered the mix and surprisingly reached out to Trump.
If Megyn Kelly is waiting for her boss to chastise Trump for what he said to her and about her, it is obviously not going to happen anytime soon. Instead, Ailes is reaching out to Trump amicably. According to Politico, Trump’s social media message via Twitter, verbatim, reads:
Roger Ailes just called. He is a great guy & assures me that “Trump” will be treated fairly on @FoxNews. His word is always good!
After four hours of appearing on Twitter, the message which Trump sent via his Twitter @realDonaldTrump account, has 1.8K retweets and 3.5K stars. His latest message on Twitter is a retweet which says a new online Reuters/IPSOS poll gives him 24% of Republicans support. Jeb Bush trails with 12 percent. There was a similar poll result released by NBC News earlier in the day that gave Trump a commanding lead of 23 percent.
Trump asserts that he will be a great president for women in America. He has stressed that he has many women working for his firms and they are in high positions. Through the mix in the past weekend, a petition has been started which calls for Fox News’ Megyn Kelly to not have her hand in any future GOP presidential debate as they believe she has tainted herself with her Trump exchange in the first debate.
