Donald Trump wasn’t supposed to be a serious contender in the race for the White House, or at least that appears to be what both political parties were thinking when Trump came out of the starting gate. This is just one more example of how the big names in politics are so out of touch with what the people of this great nation want.
The Des Moines Register’s John Hearn, published an article on July 25, in which he is reminiscing about the days of “Laugh-In” and “The Smothers Brothers.” He tells his readers that these shows offered real comedy in his day, but he claims Trump has them beat. Heard writes how “they cannot hold a candle to Trump and his Republican counterparts.”
Some folks do find Trump very entertaining, making it all that much easier to follow the man and his politics. But a lot of folks find Trump a very serious contender for the White House, which is indicated in the polls that were made public on Sunday.
Trump is now 11 points out in front of his Republican competitors in the polls and he has the media hanging on every word he has to say. Could it be that those folks in Washington, who thought Trump might be entertaining at best, are finding out that he just might be what the voters really want? Folks are taking this all in, especially how Trump has weathered all the insults and cracks, along with being used as the butt of many jokes, without so much as a chip taken out of his armor.
“Trump moved to the top of the 2016 Republican presidential field in a CNN poll released on Sunday,” reports Reuters. He is gaining popularity with the Republicans, cites this CNN pole. This pole was entirely conducted after his controversial statement about Senator McCain. While many disagreed with Trump’s statement, it isn’t so much what Trump said, but how he wasn’t going to be swayed by anyone to change his mind that people found refreshing.
The New York Times reports today a “strong showing for Trump in Iowa and New Hampshire polls. The Times also writes, “For now, Donald Trump is here to stay, at least according to two new NBC News/Marist polls released on Sunday.”
Fox News live reports Sunday that Trump is talking about the issues that voters find important today. The voters have wanted an outsider in politics for a while now and Trump fits the bill and it’s not politics as usual with the real estate mogul.
So far Trump has been adamant that he is not going to kowtow to a soul in Washington. Today’s politicians are so quick with spewing out an apology for damage control. The first sign of folks disagreeing with something you’ve said has politicians scrambling to make amends. Trump’s damage control comes naturally, he sticks to his words and weathers the consequences instead of spinning a story along with an apology.
Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley apologized for making this statement, “Black lives matter. White lives matter. All lives matter.” and according to Vox News Martin was “forced” to apologize. Regular everyday people are watching this and watching how much like puppets this era of politicians have become. Trump is the candidate who is furthest away from this Washington gene pool.
Some people say that he can come off as a bit crass at times, but other folks realize this is part of his no-nonsense mode of communicating about the ill-fated future of this country if changes aren’t made. Some complain that he can also sound as if he is bragging about what he has done in the past, but others say it isn’t so much bragging as it is talking about his real accomplishments.
Whether folks in Washington like him or not, he is a force to be reckoned with and he is building momentum at a pace that is blowing the other candidates away!
