While speaking at a press conference in Michigan on Tuesday, media mogul and GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump answered a question about the incident in which a small group of Black Lives Matter activists took over a rally held by Sen. Bernie Sanders, the Vermont socialist running against Hillary Clinton. In response, Trump said he would never give up his microphone and would never turn over his event without a fight. That, in turn, prompted a number of Black Lives Matter activists to threaten Trump
“I would never give up my microphone, I thought that was disgusting,” he said. “That showed such weakness, the way he was taken away by two young women. They just took the whole place over!”
“That will never happen with me,” Trump declared, suggesting he would fight protesters to prevent a similar disruption. “I don’t know if I’ll do the fighting myself, or if other people will, but that was a disgrace,” Trump said. “I felt badly for him, but it showed that he’s weak.”
Trump’s statement sparked a flurry of discussion on Twitter. “Did Trump just threaten to physically fight #BlackLivesMatter protesters?” MSNBC’s Chris Hayes asked. Black Lives Matter activists threatened to target Trump over the statement.
“Trump just called us out let’s make sure we take his (expletive deleted) mic!!! Republicans are the real enemies,” one activist said repeatedly. “Gotta get a #BLM protester to snatch #Trump microphone now,” another person said.
“#Trump wants to put the #BlackLivesMatter protestors to the test,” another activist said. “They will show him what time it is. Believe that.”
“The #BlackLivesMatter folks better be at a Trump rally in the near future,” said one supporter. There were also the obligatory calls to murder Trump.
“Someone put up with me to hire an assassin to kill Donald trump (sic),” one person said. “So like.. when the hell is El Chapo going to send one of his men to brutally kill Donald Trump?” another person asked.
As we reported Sunday, the Black Lives Matter activists scolded Sanders supporters, calling them “white racists.” That did not sit too well with the crowd, prompting boos and demands that Sanders be allowed to speak. The crowd eventually quieted down and allowed the activists their four minutes of silence.
The activists later issued what sounded like a threat. “There is no business as usual while Black lives are lost,” they said. “We will ensure this by any means necessary.”
