Update! He was pulled in the nick of time by someone who has a rescue. The thread says adopted but she says she’s a rescue and that Mortimer will eventually go to New York. He’s safe.
Sweet, calm and gentle — what more could anyone ask for in a dog? And Mortimer is also absolutely adorable! He gets along with other dogs, and he just wants to sit next to someone and get petted. This gentle dogs loves belly rubs. How Mortimer ended up at this crowded county shelter is a mystery.
Mortimer was transferred to the county shelter from the Humane Society of Tampa Bay (HSTB). The mystery is that on the HSTB website they say, “We have an aggressive transfer program which takes in animals from other shelters that are open admission and house animals that are at risk of being euthanized.” If that is the case, why did they transfer a sweet, very adoptable dog from the safety of their facility to the local county shelter where now Mortimer is facing death if his kennel is needed?
Because Mortimer is now very much in danger. If his kennel is needed, he can be killed as early as tomorrow morning at 9:00 am. This sweet dog with the eyes that just beg for love could be dead in 24 hours. If someone can rescue Mortimer (or adopt him), they need to email firstname.lastname@example.org by 9:00 am tomorrow morning and copy email@example.com on the email. The subject needs to be “Do Not Euth” and the email must contain Mortimer’s name, his ID# A30064331, and the contact information for the adopter or rescuer. He must be picked up by 3:00 pm tomorrow. The volunteers ask that you do not email unless you are serious about picking him up.
Mortimer is six years old, and he is healthy and heartworm negative. He loves people and he just loves to be around them. This gentle dog would fit into any home. Please share his story to help save his life.
