A dog left alone inside of an idling truck took a wild ride into a lake and could have drowned in Ellsworth, Maine, reported Tuesday’s Portland Press Herald. The dog, described as a Yorkshire terrier, was placed into its owner’s Chevrolet Silverado on Saturday, after the pair encountered another dog in the area.
The little dog somehow managed to bump the vehicle into gear and the truck rolled approximately 75 feet into a nearby lake and then began to sink. Thanks to a family friend who ran into the water, the little dog was saved from an almost certain death. On September 26, the Ellsworth Police Department posted two photos the truck to their Facebook page and wrote, “Thanks to Dave’s towing and Ryan for swimming out and hooking up the cable. A dog took a truck for a wild ride. The dog was saved by a family friend. No one injured.”
The department also commended the woman who sprang into action when the truck sank, “It was a Yorkie, the truck was fully submerged and without the quick response of the family friend the man would have lost his companion. She is a hero in my book.”
