At last month’s D23 Expo, Disney announced it would be adding new “Star Wars” lands and experiences Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Calif. and Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla. Disney Parks Blog has now announced that Season of the Force, the first of these new experiences, will debut at Disneyland Park this fall.
Season of the Force is centered in the Tomorrowland area of the Disneyland Park. One of the highlights of the experience will be the opportunity to meet “Star Wars” characters in the new “Star Wars” Launch Bay, located inside Innoventions. This new area will also offer special exhibits, Dark Side and Light Side galleries, and a look at the upcoming “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” movie.
In addition, Season of the Force will includes new tweaks to existing attractions and experiences. Star Tours – The Adventures Continue will feature a new scene, one that also references “The Force Awakens.” In December, the Jedi Training Academy will introduce characters and a villain from the Disney XD Series “Star Wars Rebels” for its Trials of the Temple experience. And for a limited time, Space Mountain gets some lightspeed action as Hyperspace Mountain, during which the dark coaster will have guests joining an X-wing starfighter battle.
Season of the Force will also offer guests the chance to “revisit favorite scenes from ‘Star Wars’ films” at Tomorrowland Theater. As with other seasonal experiences, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy special entertainment and purchase themed food, drink and merchandise.
Season of the Force starts at Disneyland Park on Nov. 16, a couple of months earlier than the date announced at D23 Expo 2015. An end date for the experience has not yet been announced. Dates and plans for Season of the Force at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is also pending.
- As part of this announcement, Disney quietly announced closure news related to the 14-acre “Star Wars” land expansion coming to Disneyland Park. Big Thunder Rand – and its attractions, entertainment and dining – will have its last operating day on Jan. 10, 2016. That date is also the last day of operations, temporarily for the following attractions:
- The Disneyland Railroad, including all stations;
- Attractions along the Rivers of America, including the Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia, Davy Crockett Explore Canoes, and Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island; and
These Disneyland attractions and experiences will be closed for the construction of “Star Wars” land but will re-open at some point in the future. Although no date was released, it is expected these areas and experiences will be closed for at least a year.
