If you’ve ever wanted to feel like a Marvel superhero, “Disney Playmation” is a blast to play, regardless of your age.
With Marvel’s cast of characters entrenched deeper in the pop culture scene more than ever before, the Avengers starter set of “Disney Playmation” allows true believers of all ages to get that superhero feeling and hold on to it as long as they want. More than a “toys to life” game,” “Playmation” is the type of toy a whole family can play together as it forces you to move around and not press buttons while laying on a couch.
Simply put, through our first few hours of playtime, the missions, interactive nature of the series and awesome feeling gear make it an instant hit, This may in fact be the item a ton of kids will ask for Christmas this year.
A combination of laser-tag and a micro “Disney Infinity,” “Playmation” has a simple, but cool gameplay structure. Whether it’s through sparring with the computer or playing through the story mode, “Playmation” has the gamer play through missions, attacking enemies, which are the power bases which enemies and allies attach to. With the starter pack, gamers put on Iron Man’s laser glove hand cannon and with the green laser sight, can easily attack the power bases, or the enemies on them, from across the room. Essentially able to fit anyone (this reviewer can palm an NBA basketball and the device adjusted to my wrist perfectly), all you have to do is sync it and learn the buttons and you’re good to go.
Firing laser assisted shots and deploying bombs, as well as shots from the center of the glove, the user feels amazing. The versatility and lightweight nature of the device will make you want to run around the house firing like a madman. If your kids are the sedentary type, this is the type of toy you want them to have.
While the device itself is cool, the coolest part is the environments are your own. You can put the bases all over your home or even outside and run around them and have fun. With 25 missions available from the start and two figures that come along with the starter pack, there’s plenty to experience. With more figures (which are bigger, but less detailed than Disney Infinity figures), gear and missions on the way, “Playmation” looks like it’s going to continue to expand.
And make no mistake, this is a toy for older kids as well. While you don’t need to have an iOS or Android device to play, the AvengersNet app makes your missions, character attributes and other information that much easier to manage. Seeing your gear sync up with your device is awesome and will allow older kids to feel like they’re playing a live-action video game and not a steroid-infused version of laser tag.
Although there’s still ton of things we haven’t done yet, through the first few hours of gameplay, “Disney Playmation” has already quickly become one of our favorite new gadgets of 2015.
