The Alphabet Network, ABC finished the television season with 10 cancellations axed from its schedule.
Surprisingly, there were less than a handful of dramas dropped by the network this season. Its Thursday night lineup of dramas have become a guilty pleasure for American TV audiences. However after four seasons, “Revenge” starring Emily VanCamp and Madeleine Stowe finally exacted the final vengeance sought by a young woman whose life was destroyed by lies, greed and murder. As a fan of the series I thought it was wonderful that the series was allowed to wrap up its very nicely with never would have guessed plot twists mixed in.
“Forever” was a great series as a fantasy drama and a police procedural even if it did follow an immortal New York City medical examiner who doesn’t lust for blood just mysteries. The series happens to be the only ABC rookie drama to not be renewed. The ratings seemed to be improving towards to the end of the season. It’s a long shot, but there is a chance that “Forever” could live on, on another network. I know my mom would be thrilled to see that happen!
Culinary shows are very addictive; its food porn for your eyes. Everything looks so good, even if its made with something you know you don’t like. So the reality competition “The Taste” features both amateur cooks and professionals. I loved the idea that a home cook can outcook a professional chef. Sadly the ratings never peaked up to level of the first three episodes of the first season.
Four freshman comedies on ABC failed to reach a second season with one of the comedies not even getting a chance to air. “Member Only” starring Natelie Zea, John Stamos, Boris Kojoe and Michael Landes was cancelled before a single episode aired. How does a show with John Stamos get cancelled before anyone laid eyes on it? “Cristela” was the comedy created for stand-up comedian Cristela Alonzo. I thought it was a great show, too bad not as many viewers thought so. “Manhattan Love Story” was the first series to get cut from ABC’s lineup. Finally “Selfie” starring Karen Gillan as an internet celeb and John Cho; her grounded in reality friend. I can really see why the premise may not have caught on with many viewers. Why watch a fictional “Kardashian” when you get far too much of the real life Selfie Queen?
When “Resurrection” first aired in ABC, I mistakenly thought that it was the American version of the French supernatural series “Les Revenants” (The Returned). I soon discovered my error, but enjoyed the show more than I did the actual American version of “The Returned”. F.Y.I. the French version of the series was better! “Resurrection” which focused on the dead returning to a small town looking exactly as they appeared before they died starred Omar Epps, Kurtwood Smith, Frances Fisher, Matt Craven and Devin Kelley.
The docuseries “In an Instant” and the hidden camera series “Repeat After Me” were pulled from the ABC schedule. It’s not clear whether they have been cancelled or merely on a hiatus. Its been widely reported that they have been cancelled due to fact they have not been included on the network’s fall or mid-season schedules.
