If anyone knows how to weave an ongoing tale of love, lust and intrigue it’s “Devious Maids” creator Marc Cherry. As expected, the season three penultimate episode “Suspicion” which aired on Aug. 17 has left a plethora of dangling plot threads to literally drive viewers crazy until next week’s explosive finale. One question keeps burning on everyone’s brain: Who killed Blanca (Naya Rivera) and Louie Becker? Signs could literally point to anyone including Taylor (Brianna Brown) or crazy, scheming Olivia (Valerie Mahaffey).
But, these ladies are the obvious suspects and everyone knows Marc Cherry is a master of shocking suspense. So, it seems most probable that neither one of these women did the dirty deeds. If they didn’t do it, who did? Less obvious suspects simply must be considered and quite frankly, there are plenty of hunky men hanging around this season that could be responsible.
In fact, Gilles Marini who plays Carmen’s (Roselyn Sanchez) dashing but complicated on-again off-again suitor Sebastien recently teased some season finale excitement in a short Examiner exclusive statement via phone. He said, “The finale will blow your freaking mind! People have to watch the finale. Even if they never watched the show before – watch the finale. If you ever liked anything I’ve done, you’re going to say ‘Wow!’” Okay, how crazy does that make us?
We totally get that Gilles had to remain tight-lipped about exactly how things are going to play out next week. However, the fact that whatever happens on Monday is going to “blow your freaking mind” does give us pause to consider some unlikely suspects in the ongoing murder mystery. For instance, what about Sebastien? What do we really know about him besides his sexy, philandering ways? He is certainly muscular enough to virtually snap anyone in two. But, is he cold enough to kill someone? Let’s hope not.
On Aug. 19 “Devious Maids” posted a promo clip for the finale on the show’s official Facebook page. In it, it appears Michael gets arrested, Sebastien and Carmen announce their engagement (What?!) and someone fires a gun. Is it Sebastien or someone else? Is the shooter trying to hurt someone or save someone’s life? According to the season finale synopsis on “Devious Maid’s” website “The maids put their own lives at risk and unmask a killer.” So, the girls are gunning for trouble as the killer is revealed. We can’t rule out some other possible suspects.
What about Ernesto (Cristian de la Fuente)? Unfortunately, poor Rosie (Dania Ramirez) discovers the truth about her newly-returned hubby’s true whereabouts while she thought he was dead. He was locked into a dangerous life in a drug cartel and he was willing to give young Katy up to the boss in exchange for his freedom from the organization. Rosie is understandably mortified and tells Ernesto “I wish you stayed dead.” Ernesto is devastated and when Hector’s attempt to kidnap Katie fails, he threatens to “pay Rosie a visit.”
Uh oh! Ernesto decides to neutralize the threat against his family by choking Hector to death. He’s incredibly strong and would certainly be capable of killing anyone, male and/or female. Plus, he’s obvious used to playing a dangerous game in a cartel. Somehow, kidnapping and killing Blanca doesn’t fit Ernesto. However, what about Marisol’s (Ana Ortiz) latest beau Jesse (Nathan Owens)? He’s definitely hiding something (besides a gun).
Marisol is a snooping queen, but something tells us she didn’t even begin to uncover all of Jesse’s secrets. He’s supposedly ex-military and suffering PTSD. But, how do we know that’s true? He could also be an undercover cop … his decision to leave town was rather hasty. It’s possible he’s on the trail of the killer and doesn’t want his cover blown. Or, he’s skillfully gotten away with murder. Shudder, shudder!
What about Spence (Grant Show)? Did Hector kill him? Is he dead? And, just what is the nature of his strange relationship with Taylor? Rosie is already regretting leaving him for Ernesto. Is she going to suffer the shock of a real death? Or, is Spence somehow tangled up with Taylor in the murders?
On a side note, it’s nice to see Genevieve (Susan Lucci) and Zoila (Judy Reyes) make up. They almost provide comic relief in the middle of the unraveling nightmare. Lucci and Reyes are masters at delivering dry quips and we can’t help but root for Zoila and Genevieve’s sisterhood to survive. On the other hand, our heart is aching for Evelyn (Rebecca Wisocky) and Adrian (Tom Irwin) in losing little Deion. Will they find their way back to each other? We can only hope … sniff, sniff!
Plus, we see a softer side of Carmen when she admits to Deion’s bio dad that she gave her own baby up for adoption to give him a shot at a better life. She’s heartbroken for the Powells and she turns to Sebastien for solace, who welcomes her with open arms. Gilles Marini and Roselyn Sanchez have combustible onscreen chemistry. Does anyone else want to see Sebastien and Carmen defy the odds and find “happily ever after” together?
For now, we’re going to have to sit tight and be sure to tune into the “Devious Maids” season three finale on Aug .24 to get the answers to our burning questions. Oh, and we’d better hunker down for the impending explosion. Something tells us the lives of our beloved maids are about to be rocked. “Devious Maids” airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Lifetime.
