On Tuesday, it was reported that Derrick Rose suffered another injury. During the Chicago Bulls first practice of the season, Rose was hit with an elbow that fractured his left orbit. He is scheduled to have surgery on Wednesday, and doctors will give a timeline for his return after the operation.
Prior to his injury, Rose talked to ESPN at the NBA Media Day about his health and about his status as a player. Rose said that he doesn’t put much thought into his injury woes and still believes he is one the best players in the league.
“I know I’m great. It’s a lot of people that don’t know I’m great, that’s the thing. But it’s cool,” Rose said. “I know I can hoop. You can put me anywhere, and I know how to play the game of basketball.”
The former MVP, who still has two years left on his contract, also admitted that he is thinking about the 2017 free agency.
Rose told the press at media day that he is curious about “all the money” that is going around in the league. Rose said that the reason why the money and the free agency is on his mind is because he just wants his family to be financially stable, and that he is doing all this for his son.
“And focusing on them two things. Make sure my family is financially stable — as far as, you see all the money that they’re passing out in this league — and just telling the truth. And knowing that my day will be coming up soon. And if not for me, for [son] P.J. and his future. That’s what I’m thinking about right now.”
He reiterated that even though the free agency in 2017 is enticing to him because of the potential money that he can make, he believes that his future is with the Chicago Bulls. He added that all he can do is “prepare for it.”
“Here. It’s here,” he said. “But when you talk about that much money, the only thing you can do is prepare for it. Trying to prepare not only myself but my family, and doing all this just for my son.”
