Not long ago, a pit bull named Adelaide (Addie) was in danger of losing her life at the Chicago Animal Care and Control facility in Illinois. Though the good-natured dog was sweet and had endeared herself to shelter volunteers, she had been over looked for too long and her time nearly ran out.
Fortunately, these days the threat of being put down is gone and Addie is all smiles. The friendly dog lives with a family who adores her and she even has her name on a wall in her new home. On Wednesday, the story of Addie’s adoption was posted to the Facebook page for Don’t Bully My Breed, Inc., the rescue group who played a hand in saving her life.
Home, Sweet Home Adelaide (Addie)!
We may not know where Adelaide’s story began but we know how her story ends; in complete happiness, loved and adored by her mom and her mom’s entire family!
“Waking up to her and coming home to her are the highlights of my day.”
Addie’s journey home started at getting picked up as a stray from CACC Transfer Team back in September of 2014. It was clear she had a few litters and was not taken care of properly. While at CACC her personality shined and she quickly became a volunteer favorite and even made it to the adoption floor. We met Addie by chance when a few volunteers were there to evaluate some dogs and a potential adopter asked us to take her out for them which we happily did.
Sadly, she was passed up time and time again on the adoption floor. She began showing signs of stress in her cage and had to be removed from the adoption floor to rescue only and she quickly became “urgent.”
At about the same time as she became urgent, past adopters of ours reached out about the possibility of fostering. They had just moved to a place where their set up was beyond perfect and they oozed excitement to help a dog in need. They were drawn to Addie and the pleas to help her. This was her story that was going viral: http://atombash.com/…/after-two-months-fun-loving-cuddl…
While in the care of her foster home, she shined so bright that her foster moms fell madly in love with her! She proved her wit, her willingness to please, to work, to cuddle to socialize and of course to play ball. It was clear Addie was winning a lot of hearts, especially the hearts of her foster moms.
As first time fosters, they knew it was going to be a struggle to let her go when that day came. And then, that day came.
Addie found her forever home. But not just any home. A home where she is the twinkle in her mom’s eye. A home where her extended family accepted her in as their grand baby, their niece, without hesitation.
A home that her foster moms only dreamed of for her. Her forever mom’s heart melts simply listening to Addie drift to sleep. This was the home we all dreamed of for Addie. We couldn’t be more proud and thankful Addie and her mom are forever family.
Forever Home Sweet Home Addie!
