The dead babies found in Germany were killed by their mother, according to a German police spokesperson. The mother told investigators that some of the newborns were born alive and that she killed them afterwards. The 45-year-old mother was taken into custody on Friday night at 7:45 p.m. local time.
As reported by the German Newspaper the Sueddeutsche on November 14, the mother, who has only been identified as Andrea G., has confessed to killing the babies and remains in custody. Germany’s district attorney has filed charges against the mother for seven of the eight dead babies. The woman’s husband, from whom the mother had separated, and the woman’s current boyfriend (who told police where she was hiding) were questioned by authorities and then released.
The first of the eight dead babies in Germany was found on Thursday afternoon in an apartment in Wallenfels by a woman who was cleaning out a room that was once used for a sauna. After alerting the authorities, police found six more bodies of newborns – all wrapped in towels and inside plastic bags.
On Friday, police in Germany discovered the body of an eighth newborn, and like the other dead babies, it was wrapped in a towel and inside a plastic bag. Wallenfels is a small town with only 3,000 residents in Germany’s Bavaria.
The gruesome discovery of the eight dead babies in Germany prompted a search by police for the woman who had last lived in the Wallenfels apartment. Authorities located the woman on Friday evening in a “Pension” (small hotel), just nine miles (15 kilometers) from the Wallenfels apartment. After interrogating the woman, she confessed to killing the newborns.
An autopsy of the eight dead babies in Germany still needs to determine when the newborns exactly died and who their father was. Some of the dead babies’ bodies were so deteriorated that it was impossible to determine the gender. While a medical examiner still has to determine the babies’ exact cause of death, it appears that some of them died years ago, As for a motive, criminal psychologist Monika Frommel stated that it might be a case of a “pregnancy denial” where a psychologically disturbed woman does not want to accept the fact that she is having a baby and once the baby is born, it is being killed.
However, according to Andrea G.’s friend in Germany, the mother of the eight dead babies used to tell her husband — when she was drunk — that she was hiding dead babies in their home. Andrea had two children from her first marriage and three children with her current husband Johann. During their 18 years of marriage, Johann realized that his wife was having extramarital affairs, but killing and hiding eight newborns was more than what he — or anyone else in Wallenfels — could believe.
