“Days of Our Lives” spoilers reveal that actor Matthew Ashford will reprise his role as Jack Deveraux on the NBC soap this spring. Hollywood News Daily reported on Nov. 30 that the fan favorite character will come back for a short arc in 2016.
According to the report, Matthew Ashford has signed on to return to “Days of Our Lives” as Jack Deveraux. Jack was last seen in 2012 when he died saving his daughter Abigail, played by Kate Mansi, from a doomed elevator. Jack saved Abigail and then plummeted down the elevator shaft himself.
Jennifer and her children were then forced to say goodbye to Jack at his emotional funeral. Since that time Jennifer has had a hard time moving past her grief for Jack. She briefly dated Dr. Daniel Jonas, and another doctor named Liam who turned out to be a complete psycho and nearly killed her.
Jack’s children Abigail and JJ often mention their father as well. While some fans are excited to see Jack’s return to “Days of Our Lives,” others are confused by the story line he’ll bring with the return. TV Insider confirms that Matthew Ashford will only return for a 5-episode arc. So, it seems that Jack likely isn’t still alive through some scheme or miracle, but that he’ll possibly be remembered in flashbacks, a video of some sort, a possible a ghostly appearance such as Bo and Hope are experiencing currently on the series.
Is this just a way to include Matthew Ashford in the “Days of Our Lives” anniversary or will there actually be a meaningful story behind his reappearance? All the while fans will be getting yet another fan favorite character back this month. Philip Kiriakis will return to Salem in hopes of ruling over the Titan empire, but he’ll have to fight Brady for the keys to the kingdom.
