“Dancing with the Stars” for 2015 is almost over with the finale coming to ABC next week. However, this Monday the semi-finals were performed and another contestant was about to be eliminated, meaning that chosen person and his or her pro partner would not be allowed to finish the competition while making a bid for the coveted ‘DWTS’ mirror ball trophy.
But that’s the way this TV talent show operates. As everyone involved was getting ready to put on a great show for Nov. 16, last week’s contestant who was voted off was on hand to give a hand to the others still dancing. That would be Alexa PenaVega, who said a tearful goodbye before hanging up her dancing shoes this past Monday.
The semi-finals meant many more grueling hours of practice for each of the remaining contestants. Each had to prepare for three different dances, including a routine with their professional partner, a trio routine with two pros involved in the performance, and a dance-off challenge while meant a variety of dance genres.
For the individual routines, Bindi and Derek executed a sassy salsa. This well trained pair hit the floorboards after a pre-recorded package showed Bindi’s mother and brother talking about what her life has been like in Australia at the zoo. The routine that followed this personal discussion showed the spirit of Bindi’s work but, in the end, lacked some technique, according to the judges. Nevertheless, a really crazy lift did go down during the routine, one that will live on in “Dancing with the Stars” history.
Meanwhile, underdogs Alek and Lindsay were ready to grab all the attention of the “DWTS” judges. The appointed hero of the group and his blonde bombshell partner waltzed to “America The Beautiful.” In light of recent and very sad events, this musical choice was a winner as were the moves put on by this semi-finals couple. The combination won these hoofers a perfect score.
Then, just before this round came to a close, Nick and Sharna came to the floorboards to offer their tango after a prerecorded package talked about the Backstreet Boy’s former life in the fast lane. Back then, he was in the thick of fame, using drugs and drink during that period of time. Nick is sorry for these actions, and he is now on the straight and narrow.
As for Nick and Sharna’s dance this tenth week of competition, well it fell a bit flat. In fact, his mentor and partner gave Carter a talking to in the middle of the performance which was a very strange situation, indeed. In the end, the pair ended up with all 8s, putting them at the bottom of the leaderboard.
As for the dance off, Carlos and Witney took on Alek and Lindsay. Their cha cha was a mind blower, with Carlos and Witney winning two of the three judges’ votes.
In the second dance off, Bindi and Derek took on Nick and Sharna. Their assigned dance was a samba. After the performance finished, Bindi and Derek were chosen winners by all three arbiters, including Bruno Tonioli, Julianne Hough, and Carrie Ann Inaba.
The trio dances were led by Bindi with Derek and Mark. What a fun threesome! The dance, a jazz number, had the young Australian working her way in and out of a box. The imaginative routine and the adeptness on the part of the non-professional earned this winning team a perfect score.
Then, after the rest of the trio dances were delivered, the time had come to see who would be going to the finals of “Dancing with the Stars” 2015. Who would be in line to earn the right to say they were the season 21 winners? Who would take home that mirror ball trophy?
Don’t worry. That big call will be determined next week but meanwhile, surprise! Ultimately, this week nobody was eliminated. It was a thrilling moment for everyone who has come so far in this feisty competition. Tune in next week for the finale but keep in mind that, on “DWTS,” everyone is a winner for even taking on such a demanding job that often leads to a lifetime love affair with the art of dance.
