The Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has released its schedule for presentations and panels for the D23 Expo 2015. The announcement as provided information on what to expect from its exhibit on the Expo Show Floor.
Disney’s theme park and resort division will generally feature three areas: 1) A look back at 60 years of Imagineering in the theme parks, which is a nod at Disneyland’s milestone anniversary; 2) a look at Disney Parks and merchandise, whether that’s souvenirs or products inspired by the theme parks; and 3) previews of what lies ahead for Walt Disney Parks and Resort, notably with Shanghai Disney Resort (opening in 2016) at the “Avatar” project under construction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, part of the Walt Disney World Resort.
D23 Expo is a biennial “all things Disney” fan convention. The three-day event offers fans a mix of information about Disney movies and televisions, merchandise and music, theme parks and resorts. In addition to Disney branded material, it covers news from Pixar, the Muppets, Marvel and Lucasfilm. D23 Expo 2015 will take place Aug. 14-16 at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Hall D23 presentation, its main presentation, will be devoted to a look the future of this division of the company. This 90-minute presentation will take place Saturday, Aug. 15, beginning at 3 p.m.
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Pavilion will provide D23 Expo attendees with a look the “creative process in designing and building Shanghai Disney Resort, along with a preview of the Avatar project coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. “ The pavilion will offer 12,500 square feet of exhibit space, and will be located Hall C of the Convention Center.
The materials related to Shanghai Disney Resort will include maquettes, artist illustrations, and media clips to showcase the resort’s development from ideas to reality, providing fans with the opportunity learn about the show design process. The materials on Pandora, the name of the “Avatar” land to come to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, will provide models, images, and exhibits related to the project inspired by James Cameron’s film series. “Avatar” land was first announced in 2011 and is not expected to open some time in 2017.
In addition, the pavilion will feature a outpost for Mickey’s of Glendale, the Imagineering-exclusive merchandise store. Here, guests can purchase merchandise designed just for D23 Expo 2015.
Disney Parks and Resorts will offer five other panels at D23 Expo 2015, to take place at the smaller Stage 23 and Stage 28 areas. D23 Expo 2015 has provided the following descriptions:
D23 Expo 2015: Disney Parks and Resort panels for Friday, Aug. 14
60 Years of Disney Parks Merchandise (1:30–2:30 p.m. at Stage 28) Join our talented Disney Design Group artists, merchandisers, and special guests as they take you from concept to reality with behind-the-scenes storytelling about classic Disney souvenirs and how they have become tangible lasting memories. Guests will get a first look at some of the exciting new merchandise coming to Disney parks.
Safari So Good – 60 Years of the World Famous Jungle Cruise (3:15–4:15 p.m. at Stage 23) Skippers from throughout the years reflect on their experiences at the Jungle Cruise, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary as one of Disneyland’s opening-day attractions. They will also discuss changes to the attraction over the years including recent holiday overlays and other additions.
Imagineering 60 Years of Disneyland (5–7 p.m. at Stage 23) In a two-part panel discussion about Disneyland with Disney Legends and current Imagineers, panelists will discuss how it all began, what it took to carry on Walt Disney’s legacy, and how Imagineers are continuing to deliver magic well into the future. The panel is moderated by Academy Award- and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Leslie Iwerks, who will present a new trailer from her forthcoming documentary about Walt Disney Imagineering.
D23 Expo 2015: Disney Parks and Resort panels for Sunday, Aug. 16
Disney Kingdoms (10–11 a.m. at Stage 28) Guests will learn about Disney Kingdoms, a joint collaboration between Marvel Comics and Walt Disney Imagineering. Guests will hear how these popular comic book series got started and discover the creators and theme park inspirations behind these popular titles, including “Seekers of the Weird,” “Figment,” and “Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.”
Experience the World with Disney: Adventures by Disney, Aulani, Disney Cruise Line, and Disney Vacation Club (3–4 p.m. at Stage 28) This panel will provide a behind-the-scenes glimpse into how Disney is creating new vacation experiences for families all around the world. The first 400 guests in attendance will receive a D23 Expo-exclusive gift.
Tickets for D23 Expo 2015 are available at a discounted price for a limited time. Through June 30, tickets are $67 for a one-day adult admission and $48 for children 3–12. Tickets for members of D23: The Official Disney Fan Club are offered an additional discount: $58 for a one-day adult admission and $42 for children. Savings on multi-day tickets are also available.
