Among the many genres of music celebrated by the American Music Awards, Country music hits center stage with the Wednesday, October 21, 2015 announcement of Country’s superstar performer, Carrie Underwood. ABC and dick clark productions announced that Carrie Underwood will perform along with 5 Seconds of Summer, Selena Gomez and the formerly announced AMA host, Jennifer Lopez at the “2015 American Music Awards.” The world’s largest fan voted awards show will air live on Sunday, November 22 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
A representative for Country music could not rival the seven-time GRAMMY® Award winner, Carrie Underwood. She is the first female artist named twice as the Academy of Country Music’s Entertainer of the Year. From her breakout win of 2005’s American Idol, Carrie’s achievements in music, television and film have reached far beyond multi-media superstar status.
Carrie, a Grand Ole Opry member, has garnered almost 100 major honors, sold 58 million records worldwide and was heralded as Pollstar’s top female country touring artist for her 2008, 2010, and 2012 headlining tours. Her four studio albums, “Some Hearts,” “Carnival Ride, Play On,” and “Blown Away” are all American Music Awards winners as Country Album of the Year, certified multi-Platinum or Platinum, each spending 38 weeks as #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. Carrie’s songs, 21 #1 singles, 11 of which she co-wrote, are streamed more than 1.5 billion times worldwide.
In her starring role as Maria von Trapp in NBC’s Emmy®-winning three-hour holiday blockbuster “The Sound of Music Live!” Carrie proved that she could masterfully conquer television and film as well as music. The special attracted more than 44 million viewers.
Carrie released her first hits collection, “Greatest Hits: Decade #1” in late 2014 to celebrate her first 10 years in Country music. The album featured 25 songs and two new hits co-written by Underwood: the Platinum-certified, GRAMMY-winning “Something in the Water,” as well as the #1 hit “Little Toy Guns.” “Smoke Break,” Carrie’s record-breaking single is the first song released from her fifth studio album, “Storyteller.” “Smoke Break” hit the airwaves to rave reviews and gives an insight into what may prove to be Carrie Underwood’s finest album to date. “Storyteller” releases worldwide on October 23, 2015.
The American Music Awards and Twitter are launching custom Twitter emojis for all performers, to celebrate their appearances as they are announced. Beginning Wednesday, October 21, 2015 through the end of the show on November 22, viewers can activate the Twitter emojis by tweeting any of following hash tags: Carrie Underwood: #CarrieOnAMAs, 5 Seconds of Summer: #5SOSonAMAs and Selena Gomez: #RevivalAMAs.
