The heatwave in your city got you down? Don’t worry as iced tea is the quick fix for that thirst that just won’t be quelled by a fan or sitting in the shade. Brewed iced tea is a great and healthy way to get a tasty cold drink in your system without adding calories or sweeteners to your system.
The first thing you need to do is pick your tea, personally I really enjoy a nice black tea with a full body behind it. If you are looking for something a bit lighter a nice white tea or herbal tisane might be the way to go. Either way you want to pick out your tea and add a bit more in that you you will usually use as you really want a nice strong flavor. If you are pregnant, this is also great for you as a nice rooibos drink is fine, and you can drink rooibos when you’re pregnant
Next, you need to get some water to brew the tea in so if possible grab some filtered water and start there. Tap water is fine as well but in some areas where there are a lot of additives or different water structures there is a possibility that the taste of your final iced tea might be impacted by the impurities found in your local system.
Next you brew your tea, so just follow the typical brewing instructions for whichever type of tea you have chosen for your iced mix. Once your tea has been brewed separate the leaves and now this is where you big decision comes in. Do you want to wait for the tea to cool on its own or do you want your iced tea now?
If you want your tea now simply pour over some ice cubes and enjoy, however if you wait a bit your patience will be rewarded with a fuller tasting cup of iced tea. This is because when you pour your hot tea over ice the ice will melt and dilute the flavor; as opposed to pouring a cooler liquid over the ice cubes which will not dilute it as much.
Either way you cannot really go wrong so just enjoy your drink, and keep soaking in the sun rays during this amazing summer weather.
