In the world that we are living in today, the classic arcade style video games are turning into a thing of the past. It could be the young children at home, the teenage kids, or even your 30 year old brother has a video game console system in their home. While growing up many adults from the age of 30 and up remember what it was like to go into a local mall or amusement park and have a section that was just video games. This was where children and teens would go to play games. Eventually that all slowly changed as console systems like Nintendo and Sega Genesis developed and became a stronger brand. Eventually there was the creation of the Sony Playstation and many years later the release of the Microsoft Xbox.
Just because these console systems were developed and released does not mean that the vintage arcade style machines are a thing of the past. Today those individuals that grew up going to malls and amusement parks to go to the arcade are seeking out these vintage arcade games again. Chances are that these people probably own some type of console system such as a Sony Playstation or Microsoft Xbox, but they want to go back and relive their younger years and maybe show their kids what they grew up playing. Those individuals have families and might want to get out of the house and go somewhere to spend time with their family or just their friends, after all they are over the age of 21 and can enjoy a few adult beverages out with their friends and play some games.
Now there are bars that are theming their location to video games. For example a place in Athens, GA called Wonderbar Athens is a place that makes you feel at home while playing a few different old school games. They have a Nintendo 64 with Mario Kart connected to a projector that plays on the wall. A few arcade games such as Area 51, Excitebike, and other games like Darts and some card games as well. It has the nostalgic feel along with being able to enjoy a cold drink with some friends. Wonderbar is one of many small locations that there are across the United States, but in most major cities you will find the ultimate in dining and gaming. That of course would be the facilities know as Dave & Busters and you can find them around many large shopping areas. Dave and Busters features not only video games, but dining, drinks, and places to host parties at. With Dave & Busters though, the old style arcade games you won’t find very many of, but you will find many of the newer ones. There are plenty there that will allow for multiple members of your group to play together at one time.
Over time we have seen the video game era go from the arcade style that many of our older generations grew up with the todays high tech systems such as the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Where will we be in 10-20 years? Will there even be consoles around or will it be built right into your television? Only time will tell where video games go from here.
