Connie Ditto was found safe after having gone missing for four days, but the mystery surrounding her disappearance is still unclear. According to 41-year-old Connie Ditto, her husband had assaulted her and that is why she had to go into hiding. Speaking with reporters from his Henrico County jail cell, Mark Ditto says that his wife’s allegations against him are “totally false.”
As reported by Fox 8 on August 15, 49-year-old Mark Ditto “was arrested and accused of domestic violence after the search for his missing wife ended when she was found at a motel – supposedly hiding from him.”
Mark Ditto’s wife owns the Organic Hair Studio at West Broad Village in Short Pump, but on Tuesday night, instead of coming home, she texted her husband that she was not coming home but going to a walk-in clinic.
Connie Ditto was found unharmed on Friday — nearly four days later — at the Extended Stay America Hotel in Innsbrook after a police officer detected her car with a license plate reader. The mom of two teens had disappeared on Tuesday night in what her husband describes as bizarre circumstances.
“I last spoke with Connie at 7.52pm Tuesday night, when she called home from her salon saying she would be late because she was going to a urgent care center in Short Pump because she had a bad headache was dizzy and had blurry vision. The girls and I did not hear back from her for a while so we texted her at 8.29 pm, no response, then texted her again at 9.05pm. At that time we were in the car driving to the clinic, guessing that is where she was. She replied to our text at 9.08 pm saying that she was going to get X-rays and being taken to the hospital for possible surgery. We tried calling her, no answer. She texted back at 9.13 pm saying do not come. Her cell phone was turned off at 9.15pm Tuesday night and has been off continuously ever since.”
Connie Ditto was not found to be at the urgent care center nor at any of the other three hospitals that Mark Ditto and his teenage step-daughters went to in order to find his wife. Worried about her, he filed a missing person’s report the next morning.
The last sign captured of his wife on video was when she signed in at the front desk at the clinic, sat down to wait, but then got up after just a couple of minutes, walked out, and left the location. After that – there was no trace of her until the police officer found her car at the Extended Stay America Hotel.
When Connie Ditto was found, she told police that she was hiding from her husband because he had assaulted her. Mark Ditto’s only explanation for his wife’s accusations — which appears to be supported by his teenage step-daughters — is an incident that occurred on Thursday before Connie’s disappearance. “Mark said the assault allegations stem from an incident last Thursday night, when he said his wife was drunk, and he and her daughters tried to take her car keys away from her so she wouldn’t leave the house.”
