Connie Ditto, 41, missing since August 11, was found three days later at a hotel in Innsbrook, north of Richmond, Virginia. Connie’s husband, Mark Ditto, had filed a missing report with local and state police, as picked up by local news stations, but left off one piece of information – his wife left because she claims he reportedly beats her.
Reports Fox News on Aug. 15: “Mark Ditto, 49, was arrested on domestic assault charges after the police search for his missing wife ended with her being found –reportedly at a motel. Connie Ditto, 41, disappeared Tuesday after sending her husband a bizarre text saying she was checking into a hospital – a week after suffering a head injury.”
The mother of two told her husband via text message last Tuesday that she was checking herself into a clinic because of a head injury. However, she had already visited the walk-in Patient First clinic in Short Pump, Virginia – and walked out of the emergency care center before her name was ever called. She was found in a motel, allegedly hiding out from her abusive husband.
Henrico Police placed Mark Ditto under arrest after the four-day search concluded. Connie’s cell phone had been turned off, making it difficult to locate her. According to CBS affiliate WTVR.com, police located Connie, who owns the Organic Hair Studio at West Broad Village, by using a drive-by license plate reader that captured her vehicle’s tag and alerted police to the missing car and woman. After police reported that Ditto was in their protection, she took out an order of restraint against her husband.
Mark Ditto however denies the allegations; he claims that Connie’s teenage daughters, Mark’s step-daughters, can attest to the fact that Connie is not a victim of domestic abuse. He claims Ditto ran away because of “mental issues,” and that the incident started when he and the two girls took Ditto’s keys away after she allegedly tried to drink and then drive.
“I’m totally floored. We as a family are very happy Connie was found unharmed,” Ditto said. “I’m very sad and sorry for her apparent health problems. I’m very disappointed by what she’s put her family through and all the people across the country who supported her search.”
Mark Ditto provided a timeline of events:
“I last spoke with Connie at 7:52pm Tuesday night, when she called home from her salon saying she would be late because she was going to a urgent care center in Short Pump because she had a bad headache was dizzy and had blurry vision,” Ditto said to The Daily Mail. “The girls and I did not hear back from her for a while so we texted her at 8:29 pm, no response, then texted her again at 9:05 p.m.”
Ditto says they “were in the car driving to the clinic, guessing that is where she was. She replied to our text at 9:08 p.m. saying that she was going to get X-rays and being taken to the hospital for possible surgery. We tried calling her, no answer. She texted back at 9:13 p.m. saying do not come.”
However, when the family arrived, she was not there. They drove to three different hospitals in the area, but none had a record of Connie being seen by a doctor. Video footage at the Patient First clinic shows her signing in, sitting down, and then walking out minutes later.
Ditto claims Connie hurt her head in a fall last week and thinks she may be suffering from internal brain injuries, in addition to being mentally unstable. “I fear she’s driven off somewhere, that’s she’s blacked out and gone,” Ditto said prior to her being found. Connie is now home, while Mark Ditto remains jailed at the Henrico County Police Department.
Whos do you believe, Connie Ditto or her husband?
