There are a lot of things that college students will need on their first day. Many parents, and even those that are going back to school will want to make a checklist for this. You not only have to consider living arrangements, you need to worry about books, class schedules, registration, and so much more. There’s so much involved in the world of college, that you’re going to want to ensure that you’re not forgetting anything. Amidst the many things that you will want to have down to a science is the print element. Printers are important parts of the tech that you will need for college. Whether you go for a high end solution, or something simple, the basics are not going to work out this time around. Students in today’s university settings need to have more than basic printers, and there are a few standout elements that you should consider when buying one.
Inkjet or LaserJet
Which is going to be best for a college student? Well, for the art student, LaserJets are the way to go. Why LaserJet? Well, these use a heat transfer to print out papers and don’t work the same way as inkjet solutions. The simplest of printers are going to use several lines of black and color ink to create the image and the print. Laser elements take the options from memory and heat transfer the ink to paper, giving higher resolution, and a stellar arrangement. If you’re not an artist and you are not majoring in an artistic solution, then you will want to go with ink over laser, but don’t go with something very inexpensive or cheap.
Wired or Wireless
Here’s the thing, wired solutions are starting to get phased out. Millions of people today are starting to see that occur, and you don’t want to get stuck with a wired option. Instead, seek out a wireless solution that will help you not only get a good overall print, but will allow you to print from your dorm, a secondary bedroom, or just about anywhere that you are in your home. Wired options require the dreaded USB printer cable, and limit the range in which you can print to and from.
Here’s the one thing that you’re going to have to deal with no matter which printer you decide to buy, and that’s ink. The ink involved with today’s printers can range from simple to complex. If you’re going to be printing a lot, it’s best to go with a printer that has separate cartridges for CMYK and black toner. This may cost more to replace, but you’ll be going through a lot of it, especially if you have a professor that requires a lot of essays printed out, and not just delivered to an email server.
At the end of the day, you’re going to want to get a printer that is a bit above “basic”. The basic options can print out a bit, but you are going to end up going through a lot of ink trying to print out even the simplest of essays.
