After an upset filled weekend of college football in Week 10 many teams have seen big moves in the AP Top 25 poll. The biggest news this week is that Clemson has jumped over Ohio State into the top spot after the Tigers beat Florida State at home 23-13.
All the teams who moved up at least four spots are listed and all team moving down five spots or more are listed. A team has to be listed in the Top 25 to make this list. Toledo was #24 last week and they lost to Northern Illinois so they tumbled out of the top 25 so they are not listed.
College football making biggest moves up
- Navy – 15 spots
The Midshipmen of Navy made the biggest move this week jumping from #37 last week to #22 in the Top 25 this week. Navy’s big move comes on the heels of their big 45-20 win over Memphis on the road. If Navy wins the rest of their game could they make the college football playoff this year? They do have undefeated and #16 ranked Houston left on the schedule. Their one loss was to #6 Notre Dame.
- Oklahoma State – 7 spots
Oklahoma State jumped seven spots to #5 this week after their great 49-29 win over TCU at home. The Cowboys left no doubt this week that they are a better team than TCU who was always ranked ahead of them. If Oklahoma State runs the table they will be in the college football playoff this year.
- Northwestern – 5 spots
Northwestern jumped five spots to #24 in the AP Top 25. The Wildcats, who beat Penn State 23-21 this week, were already ranked in the college football playoff committee poll. Northwestern has a win this season over #7 Stanford.
- Alabama – 4 spots
After their big 30-16 win at home over previously undefeated LSU, Alabama jumped four spots into the #3 slot. Clearly now if Alabama wins out they will be in the college football playoff and playing for a national championship in 2015 even with one loss.
- North Carolina – 4 spots
North Carolina jumped four spots this week to #17 after the Tar Heels absolutely crushed Duke 66-31. How Duke was even ranked this year in the AP Top 25 poll is still a mystery. North Carolina has way more talent than Duke and always did this season. If the Tar Heels win out can they make the college football playoff? It’s possible if they beat an undefeated Clemson in the ACC championship game.
- UCLA – 4 spots
After shutting out Oregon State 41-0 on the road, the UCLA Bruins jumped four spots to #18. With Utah and USC still left on the schedule, UCLA has a chance to really move up in the polls this season but with two losses they likely cannot make the college football playoff.
- Mississippi State 4 spots
Mississippi State also jumped four spots to #20 this week after their 31-13 win over Missouri. This week Mississippi State gets a chance to shine as they host #3 ranked Alabama in Starkville.
College football teams making biggest moves down
- Memphis – 10 spots
The Memphis Tigers took a 10 spot tumble this week falling all the way to #25 after losing to Navy at home. Memphis could have made the college football playoff if they had won out but now all they can do is play spoiler to undefeated and #16 ranked Houston this week on the road.
- TCU – 8 spots
TCU got spanked by Oklahoma State and the Horned Frogs dropped all the way down to #13. TCU’s college football playoff hopes are likely over especially since they will have no chance to log another needed big win in a conference championship game.
- Michigan State – 8 spots
Michigan State lost by a point 39-38 to Nebraska this week on the road and the Spartans tumbled all the way down to #14. Is Michigan State still alive for the college football playoff? They do play Ohio State on November 21st.
- LSU – 5 spots
LSU dropped five spots to #9 after losing to Alabama. What happened to Leonard Fournette in Tuscaloosa? After rushing for at least 150 yards in every game this season, Fournette rushed for just 31 yards on 19 carries vs Alabama.
