Entering this weekend‘s college football slate, there were 14 undefeated teams in the country, After a pair of losses in the top 10, there were only 12 undefeated teams remaining in Sunday’s updated College Football AP Top 25 Poll. The losses by Utah and Florida State caused a shift in top 10, and it’s a sign of things to come in the final month of the season.
With the No.13 Utah Utes dropping 10 spots, and No.17 Florida State Seminoles falling eight spots, there was room for other teams to make it into the elite of the Top 25 AP Poll. Those spots were reserved for No.9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish and No.10 Iowa Hawkeyes.
The Hawkeyes are the third Big Ten team to reach the Top 10 this week. They follow No.1 Ohio State Buckeyes, and No.6 Michigan State Spartans. Eventually, the Spartans will face the Buckeyes to help decide the Big Ten East. The winner will be in position to make the College Football Playoff.
Once again, the SEC leads the way with five teams in the Top 25 AP Poll. The No.4 LSU Tigers are the highest ranked SEC team. They moved ahead of the No.5 TCU Horned Frogs, but have their crucial match up with No.7 Alabama Crimson Tide after a bye week. The No.11 Florida Gators are the leader in the SEC East, while No.19 Ole Miss, and No.25 Mississippi State have moved up from the SEC West.
The Big Ten, ACC, and Big 12 are represented by four teams in the Top 25 AP Poll. Currently, the PAC-12 only has three teams left in the rankings. Despite coming into the year with high aspirations, every team in the PAC-12 has a loss already.
Meanwhile, the AAC also has three ranked teams. In addition, Memphis, Houston, and Temple are all undefeated. Could one of these teams sneak into the College Football Playoff picture? Temple has a big game with Notre Dame coming up.
The final two teams are No.9 Notre Dame, and No.20 Toledo out of the Mid-American.
