Hampshire Country Club in Mamaroneck, New York hosted the fourth annual Club Chefs of Westchester Harvest Dine-Around last Tuesday, November 10th, 2015 to benefit Part of the Solution (POTS). The Harvest Dine-Around featured seasonal dishes, wines and desserts from the creations of Westchester’s premiere country club chefs.
The Club Chefs of Westchester, Baldor Specialty Foods, Inc., and two dozen local chefs, clubs, and gourmet merchants teamed up to support POTS. Each organization was given their own table to highlight their special dish, wine, or dessert. All menu items and resources were generously donated from the country clubs and chefs specifically for the event.
Guests walked around and had the option to sample as many of the delicious items being served as they wished, and were treated to gourmet plates such as Venison Bolognese, Perogies with Duck Confit and Tuna Tartare. They could also participate in the available raffles while enjoying cocktails and learning the touching inspiration and mission behind POTS.
Proceeds from the sale of tickets ($125 each) for the Harvest Dine-Around benefited Part of the Solution, POTS, a nonprofit organization located in the Bronx, New York. POTS is a one-stop-shop helping low income individuals and families move from crisis to stability and ultimately self-sufficiency. POTS offers a variety of services, including a community dining room and food pantry to address the evident need for basic nutrition.
“It’s has been incredibly rewarding being involved with POTS,” said Joseph Moore, Executive Chef of Manhasset Bay Yacht Club. He explained how inspiring the event is as a chef because “so many of us take for granted our access to food, all the while communities in our own back yard struggle. The Club Chefs of Westchester have helped to bridge that gap while raising awareness for a great cause.”
This year the event honored baseball star, restaurateur, and philanthropist Rusty Staub. After retiring from his Major League Baseball career with The New York Mets, Rusty has had his hand in many humanitarian efforts, including founding The Rusty Staub Foundation which helps support emergency pantries, and being a long-time supporter of POTS. Rusty enjoyed sampling the many dishes, such as Manhasset Bay Yacht Club’s Chawan Mushi with Egg Yolk and Smoked Sturgeon Whipped Cream, and mingling with the many attendees. He also gave a touching speech as the honoree that encouraged and inspired guests to donate to POTS and all their good work in the community.
The Club Chefs of Westchester Harvest Dine-Around was a wonderful evening of fine food prepared by some of the best chefs in the area, plus wine tastings and dessert sampling. It showcased the importance of food in our lives, and how easily that necessity can be taken for granted when compared to those who struggle for those basic needs. With the Thanksgiving holiday quickly approaching, the Harvest Dine-Around helps to recognize the need to give back to our community and help fellow New Yorkers in any way we can.
