The Historical Society of Frederick invites visitors to step back in time for a tour of the town. Many opportunities await you, bringing you back to downtown Frederick Maryland the way it was many years ago. Let nostalgic reminisce and a reawakening of historical awareness be your footpath, and let knowledgeable guides lead you on the journey through time.
Many different touring options are available, along with special events and special themed tours. One such popular tour that has been ongoing throughout the summer has been the Civil War Walking Tour. For these tours, guests venture back to Frederick Maryland as it was 150 years ago, during the Confederacy’s third and final invasion into the North. This was during the time when Jubal Early ransomed Frederick, during the Battle of Monocacy.
These special Civil War guided tours will be ongoing, every first Saturday of the month through October. The next one is scheduled for Sept. 5. You may view the online calendar of events here. The tours begin at the Museum of Frederick County History, located at 24 East Church Street, Frederick. The time for touring begins at 11 a.m. and concludes around 12:30 p.m. The cost is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $5 for children between the ages of 6 and 12. Those ages 5 and under are admitted for free.
The ticket price for the Civil War Walking Tour is the same for most other walking tours organized by the Historical Society of Frederick. Every tour ticket also includes a ticket to tour either the Roger Brooke Taney House or the Research Center & Archives.
Civil War Walking Tours fall under the category of the historical society’s Weekend Walking Tours. In addition to these tours, Frederick also offers Murder & Mayhem Tours of Historic Frederick. These tours are normally offered on select weekends during the summer or fall. Additionally, there are Student Walking Tours available in the spring and fall for student groups and homeschool students. Student Walking Tour options vary and may include: Second Grade Community Walking Tours, Frederick History Walking Tours (grades 3 to 12), and Into A New Era (grades 9 through 12). More information can be found on these by calling 301-663-1188 ext. 104 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Step-on Guide Service is also an available option for tour groups. This option allows trained, experienced tour guides to transport touring visitors back in time through 300 years of Frederick County history. This is a great option for those who may not be up to walking very far.
Whichever option you choose, you can rest assured that a tour with the Historical Society of Frederick will offer you a timeless adventure through history. For more information on other upcoming events and activities, or to learn more about the historical society in general, click here.
