In Romans 12:2 (NASB) the Apostle Paul commands Christians: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” In other words, Christians are not to let the worldly value system transform them and replace their value system of living according to God’s principles found in the Bible.
The way that Christians can do that is to be transformed by the renewing of their mind and spiritual energy as they daily read the Bible and learn God’s principles, talk to God in prayer about their problems, have the power of the Holy Spirit wash the contamination of worldly ideas that may have entered their mind during the previous day, and then have the power of the Holy Spirit renew their mind and spiritual energy so that they can live according to God’s principles as they go through their daily activities.
As Christians are doing those things they are following the model that Jesus gave them in John 15:19, where Jesus told His disciples that He chose them out of the world and also said that they were not of the world. Here Jesus meant that although they lived in the physical world, they were not to have the mental attitude that the worldly value system has. Instead they were to have their values based on Jesus’ teachings and God’s principles of living. (John 15:10)
Those principles should not only be applied to individual Christians, but should also be applied to Christian Churches and Christian organizations. Just as Jesus called His disciples out of the world, wanted them to spread His teachings, and to evangelize the world; so also Christian Churches and organizations are called to be out of the world and base their teachings on what God says in the Bible, rather than what the world tells them.
In Matthew 7:24-25, Jesus told His disciples to build their spiritual house upon the solid rock of His teachings in such a way that when the storms came against their spiritual house it could withstand the storms and stand strong.
Likewise, Jesus wants His Church to be securely anchored to the solid rock of His teachings and God’s principles found in the Bible and have its leaders use the power of the Holy Spirit for guidance so that they will be able to withstand the many storms of ungodly ideas and demonic deceptions that try to tear the Christian Church apart.
Having strong spiritual houses is going to be very important for both Christians and Christian Churches to have in the last years before Jesus returns to earth in order to overcome the many kinds of storms that could be happening to them, ranging from fighting off an increase in the pressures to conform to worldly standards and facing some kinds of persecutions if that is not done; to fighting off an increase in the many forms of demonic deceptions because of the great increase in spiritual warfare between the spiritual forces of God and the spiritual forces of the Devil.
As Christians and Christian Churches are going through those storms and relying on God’s power and insight to keep them able to stay true to living according to God’s principles, they will become a greatly shining beacon of the spiritual light of God’s kingdom in the midst of the many forms of spiritual, moral, and intellectual darkness found in our modern world.
