Chris Pratt was impotent and depressed when he weighed 300 pounds. Pratt, who recently lost 80 pounds, said his weight loss secrets were CrossFit workouts and a low-carb Paleo-style diet.
“I was impotent, fatigued and emotionally depressed [when I weighed 300 pounds],” Chris told Men’s Health. “I had real health issues that were affecting me in a major way. It’s bad for your heart, your skin, your system, your spirit.”
Pratt gained a dramatic amount of weight while starring on “Parks and Recreation” because he thought his character, Andy Dwyer, was a lot funnier as a fat guy. Chris realized he was getting obese when his weight hit 300 pounds, but he didn’t want to lose weight because it might make him less funny.
“I saw myself in an episode and I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m getting fat,'” Chris recalled. “And then almost immediately I did something else and I thought, ‘Holy crap, I’ve never seen myself funnier.’ And I put the two together.”
In 2011, Pratt lost 30 pounds for the drama “Moneyball” and then, shortly afterward, regained 50 to 60 pounds for the comedy “Ten Year.” Chris then got super-buff to play a Navy SEAL in the 2012 drama, “Zero Dark Thirty.”
After that film wrapped, Chris gained 60 pounds in four months to play an obese lawyer in the comedy “Delivery Man.” In 2014, the 6-foot-2 Pratt lost 80 pounds for “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
Chris said his weight loss secrets included a low carb Paleo-style diet that eliminated processed foods and alcohol, especially his beloved beer, Celebrity Health & Fitness reported. Pratt’s four-hour-a-day workout routine included triathlon training (swimming, biking and running), weight-lifting, P90X and CrossFit workouts.
Other celebrities who have dramatically transformed their bodies on the low carb Paleo diet include country superstar Tim McGraw, who credits Paleo and CrossFit for his 40-pound weight loss, and Joe Manganiello, who stays ripped with a low-carb Paleo diet, weightlifting and CrossFit.
Now a father (Chris’ son with actress Anna Faris was born in 2012), Pratt feels better than ever and has totally embraced a healthier lifestyle. “Blood’s flowing,” said Pratt. “I’m less susceptible to impulse. I’m in a different mode. I like clothes now. I have more energy. I sleep better. My sex drive is up.”
Because Chris feels and looks so much better since his 80-pound weight loss, he said there’s no chance he’ll regain the weight. “When I saw ‘Zero Dark Thirty,’ I was like: ‘I’m going to get in shape and I’m never going to be fat again,” vowed Pratt.
