Here are great tips we learned from our Q&A session with Freddie about dream wedding shoe shopping:
Q: Weddings are a time when the bride and groom will be constantly on their feet, talking to people. What type of advice do you offer them?
My advice to the bride and groom is to make sure they can picture together how they want their wedding to look like in terms of color for the wedding setting. You see everybody will give their own suggestions on how the wedding should look like but it is always right to have something on your mind that will need some compromise.
Q: What are wedding shoe mistakes brides should avoid?
1.Buying something that you can’t wear again. Pick a style that you know you are comfortable with; if you love to rock a peep-toe wedge then go for it; it shouldn’t matter if the shoe is not in the position that doesn’t portray your curve but you should wear a pair of shoes that you will wear again and again.
2. Going for unrealistic height. Wear shoes you’ll be comfortable in that day. If you doubt you can walk down the aisle with a pair of wedding shoes, then leave them be!
3. Neglecting Tradition. Apparently stowing a sixpence piece in your wedding shoe will bring good luck to your marriage. The coin symbolizes love, happiness and prosperity. Couldn’t hurt to give it a go.
4. Going for cheapness over quality. We’re all for a bargain at Young Freddie Clothing but you really shouldn’t be scrimping on your shoes. Cheaper shoes simply don’t have the padding and freedom of movement that quality shoes have.
Q: Why is the Young Freddie Collection the perfect shoe collection to match casual or formal clothing?
Young Freddie shoes are all handmade shoes, this gives our clients an opportunity to select the fabric and designs of shoes for any occasion whether for parties, weddings, formal meetings or work settings.
Q: What inspired you to design footwear for men and women?
Young Freddie shoes inspiration comes from our African community as most of our shoe designs use African fabric prints that dawn across the continent. I wanted to create something that would bring sense of African identity to both local and people from diaspora. I also did it out of passion for designing shoes.
Q: Do I have to stick with white wedding shoes?
No,you should wear as according to the theme of your wedding,if it is traditional African, go for Young Freddie and you will get handmade custom shoes as you want them.
Q: What’s more important in a wedding shoe – comfort or style?
The wedding is a remarkable and historical day for both the bride and groom. I recommend emphasizing both comfort and stylistic as they go hand in hand. It is advisable for a bride to make sure she is in good heel shoes for her comfort and stylistic to match the event.
Q:What are examples of shoes from the Young Freddie collection that would go perfect for bridal gowns?
The shoes would depend on the design of the bridal gown. We mostly design African Fabric prints heels for most weddings that have the African taste of fashion and style. We design heels of different heights and bloc as well to obtain comfort through the course of the event.
Q:Should I buy a spare pair of shoes for my wedding day?
Stuff happens: heels break, your shoes can make your feet hurt, or you may want heels for photos but sandals for dancing. In any case, bring a spare pair of shoes to prepare for the unexpected.
Q: Is there a right type of shoe for different length wedding dresses?
As there are different types of wedding dresses like tea dresses, petite size dresses and short wedding dresses, every dress should match an right type of shoe fabric to complement each other. This is especially important for African traditional dress wear that requires a specific type of fabric as its theme color.
Q: Do you recommend brides wear fancy slip ons or flats? If yes, what types of flats do you recommend?
Yes, I would, especially during dancing, because the height of the heel is too risky for a bride. It is always a good idea to go for a flat shoes for dancing. I would recommend Young Freddie Boyfriends.
Q: How many shoes should a bride wear on her wedding day ( pre-wedding , wedding, post wedding)?
Preferably a bride should have three pairs of wedding shoes. Set aside two pairs of shoes for the day time wedding session and the third for the dancing session. In any case, you’ll have a spare pair of shoes for your event.
Q: Can flats help a bride keep her weight more balanced?
Flats are always more balanced and they are likely needed for dancing.
Q: If a bride wants to wear high heels, should she aim for a heel that’s no more than two inches high?
She should aim for the heel that makes her comfortable and is sure that it would be for the day.
I recommend to not go for more than two inches high because a wedding event involves a great deal of standing and movement.
Bear in mind, you will wear these shoes for the whole day. For the sake of comfort yes, a bride should not wear more than two inches. If you need to go for more height, go for a bloc heel.
Q: What type of materials should the wedding shoe be made of for utmost comfort?
Young Freddie has been known for its comfortable Afrocentrism shoes. We uses materials such as Ankara from west and central Africa, Kente from South Africa, Kitenge and Maasai print fabric from East Africa.
Q: How do I know if my wedding shoes fit properly? I hear feet tend to swell as the day progresses.
You should try to keep using the shoes for some days before the wedding. Brides should not go for tight Wedding shoes.
Weddings go well when brides go for handmade shoes as they will have the exact taste of style they need for their wedding. At Young Freddie we make sure your foot fitting is with accuracy and the work is done keenly as intended. We have worked for several traditional weddings here in Kenya and we are looking forward to having more of Young Freddie serve the same purpose on international platform.
