Locally sourced, family-farm food offers both nutritional and economic benefits to the community. Unfortunately, many families have difficulty affording the bounty of fresh, local produce. Chipotle celebrates Farmers Market Week by partnering with area markets to offer $5 vouchers for fresh, locally-grown food.
In the Chicago area, Chipotle will offer the $5 voucher at three farmer’s markets. The promotion starts at Green City Market on Saturday, August 1; followed by Andersonville Farmers Market on Wednesday, August 5; and lastly 61st Street Farmers Market on Saturday, August 8. Attendees who visit the markets on the designated days will receive $5 vouchers* from Chipotle that can be used to purchase local produce from any vendor at the markets. In addition to market vouchers, the Chipotle team will also distribute Chipotle BOGO (buy one, get one) coupons and recipe cards for Chipotle’s mild salsa. Vouchers are limited and are available on a first come, first serve basis.
To aid in efforts to make local family-farm food accessible to all, Chipotle also launched a program with Experimental Station’s LINK Up Illinois, and three Aurora-area markets. The “Aurora Bonus Buck” program distributed 450 $10 vouchers to local LINK agencies (i.e., VNA Health Care, Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry and Family Focus Aurora) to increase access for local low-income shoppers to the local East, West and Downtown Aurora Farmers’ Markets. LINK Up Illinois provides farmers markets across the state with funding for Double Value Coupon incentive programs for LINK Card shoppers to increase the affordability and accessibility of nutritious foods to low-income individuals.
The Aurora markets strive to attract a higher percentage of the community’s 41 percent Hispanic population. Since the start of the distribution of the Aurora Bonus Bucks in June, the markets have seen almost a 30 percent increase so far this season.
Chipotle’s Chicago-area Marketing Strategist Matt Baer explains, “We want to do our part to help make fresh, locally grown food available to all. We’ve made it a goal to serve more than 25 million pounds of locally grown produce in our restaurants across the country, but we want to offer the same access to the Chicagoland community as well. Many of the LINK members who have redeemed the Bonus Bucks have never been to a farmers’ market so it’s rewarding to know the program incentivizes families to explore the markets and have access to better ingredients from sustainable sources.”
Chipotle will also provide the Aurora markets with Chipotle BOGO coupons for all market shoppers to celebrate local food during Farmers Market Week.
Enjoy Farmer’s Market Week with your family. From fresh berries to sweet corn, the local summer harvest is at its peak. With the Chipotle voucher, your family can enjoy even more this summer.
