It’s Wednesday night and for those nine-to-fivers, that means that you are either patiently waiting for Friday, or currently texting your smartest friend in hopes that they have reconsidered your proposal to treat them to drinks if they find a way to defy time and gravity by accelerating the arrival of Friday and slowing down the departure of Sunday. While your friend ignores your wishes for the umpteenth time, fret ye not, because Perrier and Flavorpill have you covered. This Friday, August 21, Flavorpill and Perrier bring you the second installment of their #PerrierLunchBreak.
Perrier Lunch Break is a midday party that kicked off its inaugural day party at Marquee in NYC on August 4. Just what any office dweller needs on a Friday, Perrier Lunch Break offers a break in the monotony of your workday and offers you an hour that far exceeds any Madison Avenue deli you have ever spent that lone hour of solitude you are granted daily. The event features a chance to escape, a chance to release, a chance to give back, and a chance to sip, all for free. It’s like someone polled a group of people who were told ‘don’t quit your day job’, and asked them what type of lunch break would make them stay at their day job. And the Perrier Lunch Break series delivers.
The line at the first event of the series at Marquee was long. Get there early and make sure you have your confirmation printed out. To beat the heat, staff decked out in Perrier branded apparel hand out chilled cans of their flavored mineral water. Sorry guys, the good stuff doesn’t get handed out until you get inside, but no worries, the line moves within minutes of the venue opening. As you enter the venue, you are greeted to pulsating bass, neon lights, and the gasps of people who are pleasantly surprised they got to see the light of day, and even better, the lights of club. While some people beeline to the bars, others go straight to the dance floor, and others sit in the club booths. All are finding their idea of respite, which is part of the Lunch Break’s charm.
It only takes a second before everyone realizes that the music is mixed masterfully and tastefully. No choppy breaks or awkward beat-matching here. Just good vibes and interesting dance moves as DJ Questlove spins the records of songs you know, don’t know, and wish you knew. Everyone danced not even five minutes into entering the venue, which is rare for a Friday night party, let alone a Friday day party. The entire event is an ode to hard workers who need to jump start their weekend. There are plenty of bartenders, plenty of space, positive affirmations everywhere, a sounding board where you can write what made your day a ‘nice day’, and lunch is provided. The Lunch Break requires everything a person without vacation or leave would hope their job wants of them on a Friday in August between the hours of 1pm and 2pm. Absolutely nothing.
Upon leaving the event, which I guarantee will be bittersweet, you are handed a cool, reusable Perrier lunch bag to take back to work (or home). So also unlike your favorite Madison Ave deli, your wallet doesn’t hate you. Your heart won’t either, because while donations aren’t forced, they give you an opportunity to leave a couple of dollars for the very deserving New York Food Bank. After the hour you had, it is well worth it and easy to give, especially when everyone was so accommodating of you for a change.
Want to attend the next Perrier Lunch Break? This Friday is your chance. From 1-2pm with RSVP you can attend the second event of the series at Cielo in NYC. Not in New York? No worries! Perrier Lunch Break is making its way to Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles.
