In a heartbreaking turn of events, the young boy who was forced to undergo a circumcision this month against his and his mother’s wishes has been diagnosed with leukemia. Saving Our Sons, an activist organization that has been supporting four year-old Chase and his mother, reported the news this morning through their Facebook page.
Saving Our Sons wrote:
With heavy, heavy hearts we must share with the Saving Our Sons community that little Chase was forcibly circumcised against his wishes, at the hand of his father, Dennis Nebus. In case this beautiful child wasn’t hurting enough, he has also been diagnosed with leukemia, and is beginning his battle against cancer. All the while, he has been without his mother, Heather. Our hearts and prayers go out to this child, his mom, and his loved ones.
The organization confirmed the news via email. They report that the type of leukemia that Chase has been diagnosed with is thankfully one with a high cure rate. Unfortunately, his mother must now return to court to try to resume visits with Chase and to speak to his health care providers about his condition.
We are heartbroken to learn from Chase’s family that he has been diagnosed with leukemia and will be fighting a battle against cancer as he goes through chemo treatments. Thankfully, the type of leukemia he has been diagnosed with has a high cure rate. His mother, Heather, was forcibly separated from her son for 6 months, and has only seen him once at this point. She faces an ongoing battle just to be with her son, and support him as he faces cancer treatments.
In further tragic news, we now know also that Chase has been circumcised at the hand of his father, despite his clear indication that he did not wish to be circumcised. We fought the battle against this as best we were able, alongside Heather, for so long. And now we’re hoping to support her in being reunited with her son, as he faces healing from genital cutting, and leukemia.
One thing is for certain: this is a child who needs his mom, and a loving mother who desperately needs to be reunited with her little boy.
Saving Our Sons provided screen shots of court documents filed this week asking to modify the parenting plan in place in order to allow Chase’s mother, Heather Hironimus, to once again visit Chase, speak to his medical providers and have unsupervised timesharing with him. The documents acknowledged that Chase had been circumcised, that he had been diagnosed with “a serious and unforeseen medical condition” and that prior to a visit this week when she was told the cancer diagnosis, she had not been allowed to see him since May, 2015.
