A chance meeting turned into a budding business relationship. Dex Millions and Zoey Leigh have meshed their visions together to create a dynamo production team. Over this past year, they have collaborated to bring together lavished events for the likes of Dick Gregory and most recently Alex Thomas. Dex and Zoey share how their meeting brought about a once in a lifetime ideal partnership.
The makings of a joint venture can be either good or bad and sometimes with an ugly outcome, however with Dex and Zoey, their merger has been seamless. This could be contributed to their acknowledgment and ownership of the roles they play within their business relationship. Dex is the man behind the scenes while Zoey is the front runner booking the clients and securing talent. Trust factor is the key to the congealing of minds.
Both Dex and Zoey know how it is to be surrounded by negativity. Dex born and raised on the west side of Chicago developed his interest in music from looking through his mother’s vinyl records and directing his Broadview, IL’s church choir. Dex was not a singer, dancer or rapper, but he knew he wanted to read his name in the credits of someone’s album bylines. Escaping the mean streets of Chicago through the sanctity of his love for music, he now owns a recording company Dough Street Entertainment.
Zoey found solace in comedy. Calling the shots and making things happen on her own terms, Zoey knew that entrepreneurship was her course. Growing up in Brooklyn, she was no stranger to trouble. At one point confrontations seemed to plague her on every hand. Stand up comedy became her saving grace. To make people laugh about everyday experiences was her way of coping with life. Thus, Zoey started Mr. Steal Your Wig Productions to negotiate her deals and pave ways for other up-and-coming artists.
Transferring their visions into one, Dex and Zoey are working to bridge the gap for other artists who want to make it in the entertainment industry. Zoey knows very well how hard it is for women on the comedy strip. Though Mo’Nique, Wanda Sykes and others have broken down some barriers for women comedians, there are still more obstacles to surmount. When producing events for major artists, Dex and Zoey make sure that local artists are showcased as well. This continues to keep the comedian circuit fresh.
Alex Thomas brought his comedic chops to The Promontory on Chicago’s south side with Dex’s and Zoey’s production expertise at the helm. The two show evening was a success. With their first comedy production together under their belt they are looking to produce more of them. Their next production is at the Laugh Factory Chicago on Oct. 28 featuring Kelly Kellz and TK Kirkland. Zoey Leigh’s Mr. Steal Your Wig Production company brings legendary comedian Dick Gregory to the Laugh Factory LA on Oct. 9. For tickets, visit the Laugh Factory’s website for both events.
