September 5 is all about the cheese…pizza, that is! Here are the cheesiest cheese pizza recipes for Cheese Pizza Day. Some of these recipes are decadently delish with no thought to calorie counting. But for those of you who are watching your weight or trying to lose, here are diet pizza recipes that are pretty darn delicious even though they’re low calorie.
Cheeser! Cheeser 8-Cheese Pizza: Remember Little Caesar’s cheesy pizza shtick? Well, you’re gonna top that with this recipe. Start with your favorite crust recipe–whole grain, thin, thick. Or buy a pre-made pizza crust. For dieters, choose whole grain thin crust. Or make your own with Bob’s Red Mill 10-grain flour. Use coconut oil in place of high-fat oils. Rub crust with oil or real butter and sprinkle with minced garlic for that oh-so-divine garlic bread pizza taste. Next layer these cheese on crust: sliced provolone, Muenster, Cheddar and Monterrey Jack. Between each layer, add dashes of garlic, fresh basil and oregano, onion and paprika. Next, sprinkle on shredded Parmesan and Mozzarella. Last, sprinkle crumbled bleu and feta cheese. Repeat seasonings after each layer. Bake till cheese is melted and crust golden. Dieters, use light versions of each cheese. Go heavy lower calorie provolone, Mozzarella and fat-free feta. If you can find Danish Havarti, add some of that too. Brush bottom with oil and grill pizza.
Very Veggie Sicilian Cheese Pizza; So who says a cheese pizza has to be strictly cheese? No one. And all those veggies are very diet-friendly as they fill you up! Follow the Cheeser! Cheeser recipe above, but use only provolone, Mozzarella and feta cheeses (use same spices). Layer cheese with fresh sliced tomatoes, black olives, green olives, green peppers, onions and mushrooms. Add a layer of spinach and basil leaves. Bake or grill till cheese is golden and melted. Wrap in foil to keep toppings in place. This one’s extra good with a sesame seed crust.
Meaty Cheese Pizza: Add to the Cheeser! Cheeser! pizza, fresh-cooked and crumbled sausage and bacon. Top with sliced pepperoni. This pizza is pretty expensive to make so create a pared-down, equally delicious bacon-feta pizza. Make your garlic crust. Then top with Mozzarella and provolone cheese, basil and oregano leaves, and cooked chopped bacon. Top with feta cheese and black pepper. Grill or bake till Mozzarella is melted (feta doesn’t melt too well).
Serve pizza with a huge lettuce salad and glass of fruity Pinot Noir, Carmenere or a grapefruit IPA.
