A new cheese study has gone viral today probably because it suggests cheese is as addictive as drugs. The more fatty and processed the cheese is, the greater addictive quality it has. This is according to the results of the research collected from the subjects used during this recent cheese study.
HNGN News reports on October 24, this study came out earlier this year, but it is gaining viral status today. These findings are coming from researchers at the University of Michigan. They set out to list the most addictive foods of today, but found cheese to have a strange quality, much like drugs.
When the research was all said and done, cheese popped up as being as addictive as drugs. While it wasn’t number one on the list, which went to pizza, the cheese topping is credited for pushing pizza to the top.
This addictive quality of cheese is backed up with a scientific explanation of how cheese contains casein, which breaks apart during the digestion process releasing opiates called casomorphins. These casomorphins act as dopamine receptors in the brain, which triggers the addictive element of cheese.
Us Magazine reports that this new study saying that cheese is as addictive as drugs was published in the U.S. National Library of Medicine. So why does a cheese addiction look so much different than a drug addiction?
When equating cheese with a drug-like addiction this conjures all types of scenarios in the mind’s eye. People crashing in a corner of the room desperate to get their next fix of cheese or cheese deals in the dimly lit back alleys of the major cities, which are scenes that just aren’t happening! Can you just see cow cartels as the new wave of the future?
Have you ever heard of a robbery suspect claim it was his cheese addiction that made him do it? Folks coming off the last of their cheese are not known to frequent the deli counter with a weapon demanding that the deli worker empty all the cheese into a bag.
Headlines haven’t indicated that one single Hollywood star is doing a stint in cheese rehab, if there even is such a thing. If what this study is indicating rings true, then society has been going about drug addiction all wrong! Maybe folks haven’t had to rob, burglarize or enter a cheese rehab because cheese is affordable and at the ready for anyone of any age group?
There’s not been many, if any, cheese overdoses splashed across the headlines in modern-day times. There are no laws on cheese, as you can drive while under the influence. Even if you are pulled over, the cops don’t care that you’ve just polished off a pound of Land ‘O Lakes white! Is cheese really as addictive as drugs?
