It seems regular people aren’t the only ones who suffer from the urge to splurge. Former 90210 cast member and celebrity mom Tori Spelling, is reportedly having issues with overspending; according to OkMagazine, husband Dean McDermott isn’t very happy about it. Many of us are all too familiar with the issue of overspending. But what causes it? And when does healthy shopping cross over into addiction?
According to WebMD, shopping, like drugs, can raise dopamine and endorphin levels, creating an actual shopping high. Addiction occurs for many reasons, but simply put, when we use, shop, or gamble, we are seeking good feelings. Mothers might be sensitive to urge to shop because of natural nesting impulses, but it could also be that they are constantly bombarded by the needs of others and have a hard time resisting the urge self-medicate with ‘retail therapy’. Being a mom is hard work, but when our shopping habits create more problems in our personal life, it’s time to make changes.
