I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream during the month of July! Not only is it hotter than heck outside—it’s that summer month where frosty treats are most appreciated—it’s also National Ice Cream Month!
But if you have food allergies, you might be wondering whether you can safely partake in all the ice cream festivities. Good news—if you can’t have gluten and lactose, there is an option for you! And it’s a tasty option, too. Enter Arctic Zero’s new Chunky Pints!
Before I even get into the allergy friendliness of Arctic Zero’s Chunky Pints, let me first say this: eating these frozen desserts won’t wreck your waistline. Are you sitting down? One serving of Arctic Zero’s Chunky Pints is just 75 calories—and if you indulged in the whole pint (couldn’t blame you one bit if you did!), you’d only be eating 300 calories. That’s pretty astounding compared to, oh, pretty much any other ice cream or frozen dessert out there! They’re also low fat, with only 2 to 2.5 grams of fat per serving. Plus, each flavor is full of protein and fiber, making it more nutritious than many other options currently on the market.
There are five Arctic Zero Chunky Pint flavors. All of them are lactose-free, but only four of them are gluten-free. If you can’t have gluten, you will want to avoid the Cookie Dough Chip flavor. I was delighted to taste-test the four gluten-free flavors—here are my thoughts on the flavors that we gluten-free folks can safely enjoy:
Arctic Zero Buttery Pecan Chunky Pint: They weren’t kidding when they said buttery! This flavor tastes of Southern goodness, with loads of buttery flavor and plenty of chopped pecans. It’s sweet but not overly so, and a half-serving actually filled me up, although I was tempted to eat more.
Arctic Zero Key Lime Pie Chunky Pint: This flavor was both delicious and unexpected. Lime ice cream is definitely unconventional, and this reminded me more of a sherbet. It was creamy and had little chunks of gluten-free graham crackers in it. I had fun going after those little graham chunks while enjoying all that fresh, tart lime goodness! I really enjoyed the tanginess of this flavor.
Arctic Zero A Lil’ Bit Chippy Chunky Pint: This was the simplest flavor they have—vanilla frozen dessert with chocolate chunks mixed in. It was also the sweetest flavor; the vanilla really came through. The chocolate was delicious, and a nice complement to the sugary vanilla. This is the perfect base for a make-your-own ice cream sundae—just add your own allergy-friendly melted chocolate and a cherry!
Arctic Zero Cool Mint Chip Chunky Pint: This was my very favorite out of all the gluten-free flavors. The ice cream tastes freshly minty—it’s not overpowering at all, but instead a frosty cool mint. The chocolate chips interspersed throughout are really tasty, and the consistency of the ice cream itself is wonderful—it was the creamiest one I tried.
If you’re looking for an allergy-friendly Fit Frozen Dessert™, pick up an Arctic Zero Chunky Pint to share with a friend during National Ice Cream Month. (Or keep it all to yourself—I won’t judge!)
