Cavalia’s ‘Odysseo’, the multi-media live horse spectacular, a Cirque du Soleil with horses and created by Montreal’s Normand Latourelle, a Cirque du Soleil founder, comes to AT&T Park and sets up it’s big top just before Thanksgiving, Wednesday, November 25, 2015. Latourelle premiered the show in Montreal in 2011 featuring magical and thrilling horse and rider performances set at the wonders of the world, nay, the universe. World heritage scenes range from an enchanted forest and a real water lake to the treeless grasslands of Mongolia called steppes, Nordic glaciers, African savannah and Sahara desert, sandstone buttes of Monument Valley in Colorado, the remote Easter Islands inhabited by Polynesians with stone statues called moai. The moai, enormous stone historic artifacts, number about 900. The timeless show moves between antiquity and uninhabited open spaces on Earth to outer space and the universe. Yes, it would seem there are horses in space. And they speak French.
Latourelle came to San Francisco five years ago for the holidays with his show ‘Cavalia II’. This time his show includes 70 horses and 45 riders, acrobats and aerialists, musicians and dancers including gymnasts on silks in the style of Cirque du Soleil. Some performances have the spirited horses at liberty, as shown in the beautiful photos in the slideshow particularly ‘The Travellers’ shots with white and dapple grays running through a real-water lake. One whimsical number is called Carousel. He describes the white big top as the biggest touring tent there is, the size of an NFL football field.
