Clevelanders can enjoy a fun, family-friendly weekend event and at the same time also benefit a local charity. Just make plans to attend Gervasi Vineyard’s Festa Gervasi, their 4th annual grape harvest festival being held on Sunday, September 27 in Canton, Ohio. It is approximately a one hour drive from Cleveland.
A celebration of the Vineyard’s grape crop and benefiting the United Way of Greater Stark County, Festa Gervasi offers a day filled with Italian flavors, good food, live musical entertainment, children’s activities, vineyard tours, a winery open house, a candy buffet, specialty vendors (offering Wine & Fall themed jewelry, slumped bottles and handmade decor and gifts) and even a bocce ball tournament. Among some of the family fun activities being offered at Festa Gervasi are a Grape Harvest Relay Race where teams of 1-3 people will harvest and stomp purple balloons (representing the grapes) and serve grape juice (2 p.m. – 4 p.m.) and Grape Stomping where visitors will get the chance to stomp actual grapes at The Crush House from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. A $1 donation to participate in the grape stomping is requested with proceeds going to the United Way. And don’t miss out in participating in the Yarn Bombing, an interactive art project for all ages where you can bombard trees with blasts of color.
Children’s activities include a kids’ craft booth (grape print activity, bracelet craft), face painting, games, a carnation wax dipping activity and pumpkin decorating. Children will be able to take their decorated pumpkins home with them. A $1 donation for the United Way is requested. And check out the Candy Buffet in the Conservatory from 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. where you can fill up a bag of candy to take home for a $2 donation to the United Way.
Taking place at the Piazza, the Bocce Ball Tournament will take place from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. (The final game – winners from two earlier bracket games — takes place at 4 p.m.) with teams of two. The winning team will receive a $50 Gervasi gift card. Cost is $10 per team to benefit the United Way.
Vineyard tours will be offered on the hour from noon – 4 p.m. Guests should go to the North Vineyard to begin the tour. The Crush House Winery is hosting an Open House from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. where visitors can check out the state-of-the-art facilities and and gain some knowledge about the wines and the winery from Gervasi’s winery team.
Among some of the culinary delights available for purchase are an Italian Plate for $12 ($6 for the Kids Plate) and other traditional Italian fare from the Villa Grande, chocolate barks, chocolate grapes, soft biscottis, cookies, cinnamon roasted nuts, gelato, hot dogs, BBQ beef sandwiches and freshly squeezed strawberry and classic lemonade.
