After suffering a defeat in the last seconds the previous Saturday, the Canton Charge (1-3), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, came back towallop the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (3-2), 107-87, claiming their first win on the 2015-2016 campaign. This is the third victory in a row that the Charge has had over the Mad Ants.
As the game started, it looked grim for the Home Team as Fort Wayne went on a 5-0 tear but the Charge fought back as Michael Stockton found his range scoring six in the first quarter along with three assists. Charge forward Nick Minnerath contributed by connecting for 2-of-3 for six in the first. Fort Wayne’s Terran Petteway was good for seven first quarter points. Things seemed to even up when suddenly the Mad Ants closed up the quarter with another 5-0 run as the teams took a short break with Fort Wayne ahead by 25-16.
The Mad Ants kept on the pressure into the second quarter when Canton, trailing 36-27 connected for a 17-3 run over a period of 5:15 giving them a 44-29 lead with 1:52 remaining in the half. Fort Wayne managed to creep back up but the Charge’s Quinn Cook was good for two points at the charity stripe and Canton went into the locker room with a 48-43 advantage. A new-comer to Chargeland was Milwaukee Bucks’ assignee Damien Inglis who is visiting under the Flexible Assignment Rule and was good for nine first half points on 4-of-7 shooting.
It was all defense with the Charge as a total team effort held Fort Wayne to just 29% shooting as they only managed 6-21from the field. Coming off the Charge bench, Juvonte Reddic was perfect on his 4-of-4 from the field as Cook added nine third quarter points of his own with three assists. The quarter wound down with Canton going on a 12-0 run as Canton outscored Fort Wayne 31-19 in the third as the Charge entered the final quarter with a 79-62 advantage.
From here on out, it was simply a matter of ball control as the Charge fought off rally after rally as Canton managed to stay ahead by at least eleven points throughout the remainder of the game and in the end won by 20 in the 107-87 victory. Throughout the game there was a great deal of physical contact as both sides fought hard.
Cook had a game-high 26 points and nine assists with five rebounds in 42 minutes of action. Dunigan chipped in 23 points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots in 28 minutes. Reddic added 16 points on 7-of-11 from the field in 20 minutes of relief. Damien Inglis provided 14 points and five rebounds in his Charge debut. Canton out-rebounded Fort Wayne 53-34.
Fort Wayne was paced by forward C.J. Fair’s 19 points and nine rebounds on 7-of-14 shooting. Reserve guard Walter Lemon Jr. chipped in with 14 points off the bench. Rakeem Christmas added 13 points, six rebounds, and three blocks in 27 minutes.
Canton concludes the three-game home stand on Saturday, November 28, 2015 with a matchup against the Bakersfield Jam (Phoenix Suns affiliate) at 7:00 p.m. Saturday’s game marks the 100th home contest in Canton Charge history.
