If you’re going to celebrate Halloween, consider doing it on a Disney cruise, right? Of course, Disney magic will abound throughout the sailing, but we suspect there’s lots of extra fairy dust for this spooky/fun holiday.
We had a blast covering the 2012 inaugural sailing of Disney Fantasy, so the ship was an easy choice as we started planning a family getaway. Turned out as we all checked calendars, Halloween worked. How fun is that?
A recent email advises: “You’ll want to make room in your luggage for your costume, as we’ll be celebrating Halloween on the High Seas with themed offerings during your sailing. Halloween on the High Seas is a Disney Cruise Line (DCL) fleet-wide celebration that includes themed events and activities along with a costume contest for adult guests and Mickey’s Mouse-Querade Party for children.”
The communique further notes: “We’ve tried to think of everything to make these voyages special. While there will be themed activities throughout the cruise, on one evening, children will receive trick-or-treat bags in their staterooms that they can bring along to a special party to collect candy treats. On this same evening, prizes will be awarded to our adult costume contest participants based on the following categories: Funniest, Most Spooky, Best Group, Most Original, Most Disney. Hmmm, better put our heads together; might call for setting up the sewing machine.
All Disney ships, in fact, will transform into a ghoulish wonderland filled with frightfully fun events and activities, special decorations, unique menu items in the restaurants and themed parties on deck.
We had a great fortune a few years back to do a behind-the-scenes Christmas season tour at Disney World. It blew us away, so when we read that the Halloween cruise includes elaborate décor, we know this entertainment giant will do it right, including The Pumpkin Tree, which magically transforms throughout the cruise. DCL also has some of the best entertainment at sea we’ve seen in our 62 cruises!
The Disney Fantasy, the fourth ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, was christened in 2012 during a star-studded christening celebration at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal featuring Fantasy’s godmother, Mariah Carey.
Check back here in November for our report on Halloween on the High Seas aboard Disney Fantasy. Move over kids; I’m dusting off my autograph book for the Disney characters.
